Just my opinion, but I believe they have something on Canada if he’s accepting that little. Such as missed practices, missed meetings..... things that have been documented. This agreement avoids a court fight and both sides can go about their ways.

Sure it does. Doesn’t mean it’s the case, but it certainly implies it.

They had enough that he didn't fight it. He was trying to work his way back to good graces hoping to coach one more season. He screwed this up and knows it.

Why would there be a need for a buyout if had not been fired?

not really, here is how it may go...
I am firing you and owe you $ 3mm
you say, let's come to an agreement...
You say I quit and I will take less settlement.
happens all the time.
LSU gets what it wants
Canada gets what he wants

I've been saying that there is something that happened that we know nothing about. How come everyone else that works with O doesn't have problems with him in year 1 ffs? Players and coaches love him. Aranda loves working with coach O. Canada seems to have problems wherever he goes and leaves quickly, after a while you have to start wondering if there's just something about the dude that can't be happy as a coordinator. Screw him, we don't need bad energy on this team or between coaches. There are plenty of gl coaches that can come in and excel with the talent we have, frick matt canada.

There is one thing that is certain like death and taxes and that is there will forever never be a dull moment at the end of an LSU football season.

You guys, and this board are ridiculous. Sure, it's possible that some shite went down but taking a settlement is NOT an indication of improprieties. It's likely an effort to convert a restrictive buyout that is offset by future earnings into an up-front payment with no strings attached. Now Canada will be able to go find another job without having to deal with the stipulations. Canada's break-even mark will be $750k/yr in whatever future job he gets. On the flip side of that LSU reduces their potential liabilities and they come out ahead if Canada makes less than $750k/yr at the next job since they would have been on the hook for the difference.
This....Finally.... Someone knows what they’re talking about.

I hope no OC worth a damn accepts the job. Old Miss O is back.

If he really hires Ensminger or promotes or whatever, this program is fricked.

No. Don't be an idiot. The buyout was over a period of time, had terms and offsets in it. He likely renegotiated into a lump sum no-srings attached payment. It'd be like if you win the lottery and not only are the payments spread out over time but they are offset by your income. You'd take a lesser amount if it's a lump sum payment.
The only thing it means is that Canada wants to work and that he thinks he can land another decent paying job pretty much immediately.

I actually think this number makes a lot of sense for a mutual parting of ways. LSU pays it because if they don’t, they risk Canada sitting on his arse for two years and having to pay out 3 million. Canada takes it because if he doesn’t, he’s working “for free” if he takes a job in the next two years. Now he has at least a chance to make MORE than 3 million over the next couple years, he just has to beat $650k per year.
Interesting. I hadn't thought about it in that way. Good point.

I love that episode and still laugh every time I see Kramer smoking and guzzling beer at the same time.
And I love the line where the guy says, "Don't take this personally, but when I come back, I'm sitting over there."
