Isn't getting on base part of "hitting"?? Along with having patience and taking walks and striking out less and having a good overall approach at the plate?

No it's part of an at bat, making contact with the ball and getting on base is hitting! Ok so you can honestly look at JJ from last yr and this yr and say he is good at hitting...if you do then your fricking blind but I guess he is running into bad luck im sorry. Guess he ran into bad luck the whole damn yr last yr too!

You're insane if you don't think the opening SEC series, on the road, against a team the caliber of state is a good measuring stick for us.. First opponent any where near the talent we would see if we made it to Omaha.

Jones was hot earlier in the season, is in a mini-slump now. I trust he will break out of it.

The balls just aren't dropping at the moment for him, but to say someone isn't producing at the plate with on OBP of over 400 shows lack of baseball knowledge. I guess everyone knows what they are talking about after watching the team play one game as opposed to someone who has only missed about 3 games.

I'm adding so many exclamation points because you seem so EXCITED!!!! AHHH!!!!!!

We could easily, easily lose 2 out of those 3 games. Does that mean we won't make it to Omaha and won't win the SEC? No, not even a little bit. That is all I, along with the other 95% of this thread that are in agreement, are saying.

Honestly, I still feel like LSU/MSU/Ole Miss are really the best teams in the SEC this year. If we can snag 2 of 3 in that series it would be huge. It will be the first road trip we take though, so who knows how they will react.

If you sweep the teams you should sweep, things always seem to fall into place.

They have played extremely weak opponents thus far. Ask that question again at the end of April.

Thanks man for the comment but you're an idiot because that isn't true being as our RPI is #2 in the country right now.

Well, the Rant had it's share of "bench Dean" threads in it's day, so I guess a "jones can't produce at the plate" one was imminent. Jones is a great defender, a great base runner, great at getting on base somehow, so if we do get to Omaha, he will be a big part of that. This ain't my fight, but sometimes you just need to say, " your cogent
argument has persuaded me" and let it go.

(That is auto correct on the it's).

Right, I just don't think it is very smart when people are saying "Oh we will know how good we are when we play a tough MSU team on the road. What if we get swept? Does that mean we aren't any good? It's baseball. Anything can happen in a 3 game series - and it likely won't have any impact on the determination of the rest of the season.

Can this baseball team make it to Omaha?

Yeah I actually think the first time was last year.

In other words, we have only lost a CWS-deciding final/championship game of a Regional or final/deciding game of a Super Regional ONCE.

As far as the rest of this thread, I am not really sure I can believe some of the crap people are spewing off about the team.

You're an idiot if:

1) You think we played a weak schedule
2) You say Jacoby Jones needs to learn how to hit
3) You don't know anything about baseball but decide to add to the discussion
4) If you think the SEC will be decided before May 15th
5) You say things like this, "Not to mention they can only hit rag arm pitchers. Only get hits in the late innings off of no depth bullpens"
6) Or this, "We iz good.... Little nervous about pitchin'....younguns looking great; last time our younguns looked this good we got a natty."

This is a long season but this team is better than last year's for one reason, defense. We have it this year. Bregman is a beast, Ibarra is clutch, Laird is a guy that came LITERALLY out of LF, Katz is Katz, Rhymes gonna Raph, Ross is streaky, Jones is talented, and Nola Eades and Glenn could end up being one of the deadliest trio's in the NCAA this season.

I think this statement is true, except only at home

Well, that eliminates about 60% of the people on here that jump in the baseball threads...

I give up

That's right. I know we lost at Rice one year and at Zephyr to the Weenies in '01.
