I got to admit I laughed on that one

When I hear "Nutt does more with less" it would be a bit like Atlanta Falcons or Louisville fans hearing Petrino referenced as "Honest Abe" or "Mr. Stability" or something like that.

I don't have beef with Ole Miss. Just the coach.

And since we are on page 2 and inevitably someone will say "He does do more with less" without reading page 1, I'll repost my opinion on why he does less with more and gladly bow out for a bit.

Catch you cats later........

From page 1:

His last 6 years at Arkansas he had 6 first rounders, 7 second rounders, and 32 drafted in rounds 1 - 7. That's almost 6 per year, excluding free agents.

That isn't "monumental" but is in the top half of the SEC.

Point being:

1)He can recruit. He just goes after too many "diamonds in the rough" and classes drop between 20 and 40. Most do not pan out.

2)Houston doesn't do more with less. That's a bullshite, cliche catchphrase that in no way whatsoever is backed up by statistical evidence. To the contrary, stats show that he takes more and does less.

In his last 6 years he had the SEC All-Time rushing QB in Matt Jones, a 5,100 APY gentleman by the name of Felix Jones, the SEC's 2nd leading rusher in Darren McFadden, Pro Bowler Shawn Andrews, Pro Bowler Ken Hamlin, Rimington Trophy winner Jonathon Luigs, 32 draft picks, 6 first rounders, on and on and on.....

Yet in that time frame he lost to Vandy twice, had an abysmal road record, a losing record to the top 25, a 4 win season, a 5 win season, and went 1-3 in lower tier bowls.

(And, no, going to Atlanta twice in 11 fricking years, once thanks to a Bama probation, both trips by tie-breaker, doesn't strike me as amazing.)

They might have the second best QB in the league

According to some people he might be the first QB taken in the draft next year.It will be a great matchup,I'm looking forward to making that trip.

Ouch! What a nice sobering piece of reality to slap Ole Miss fans in the face!

Ole Miss! I'll believe it when I see it.

When Houston Nutt has a team with high expectations they usually fail.

When Houston Nutt has a team no one thinks will be worth a shite, they usually are successful.

My guess would be this season plays out in a traditional Houston Nutt way. I've been wrong before though.

om will be Zer0 Mess. They will return to their usual place as SEC runts.Have you people already forgotten who they have been since 1963?Their best year,09,was a mistake of nature.Only a weak schdule may save their total fall to the usual Manning position,on their arse.

I'm sure glad to see the Hog fans aren't bitter or anything. This does kind of put the angst some LSU fans feel towards Saban in a bit of perspective. I mean, I don't think I've ever heard any Tiger fans say THAT about Little Nicky . . .

Miles is 2-2 in head to Nutt competition, so I can't say that the Nutt is in Miles' head.

Given the massive talent disparity between us and Arkansas, and how much Nutt generally sucks as a head coach, this is very unflattering for Miles.

OLE PISS will choke this year. They could have the starting lineup for the New England Patriots with Manning as a backup and I still do not belive they will have the success they did last year. With everbody in the west improving they will not be in the running for the SEC West crown. I think they finish 4th in the west behind LSU\BAMA\Arkansas

Except you can throw out last year, because of the Perrilloux dismissal. Miles and staff spend 2007 getting their heir apparent at QB ready for 2008 only to see all that time and effort go down the drain.

2007 was a case of the Hawgs catching us with a depleted d-line. LSU's d-line was just not the same after Dorsey's chop-block injury courtesy of Auburn.

If Les is guilty of something, it's been occasionally catching bad breaks.

yet he did catch lightning in a bottle when LSU got into the BCS title game in 2007. That was a major fricken miracle.

Here's hoping LSU is in for a long string of luck, vs Arkansas and everyone else.

I don't strongly disagree with anything else you said but this. I'm pretty sure LSU's D-line that year, even without Dorsey, was better than those of each of the four teams that somehow managed to beat Arkansas- not the least of which Missouri, who managed to hold them to 7 points.

I think Arkansas is a lock this year. No way we lose to them.

2 plays made the difference in that game, in regulation. On one multiple players took bad angles (the long McFadden run), and the other multiple players bit on the fake allowing Hillis to take one to the house. Had the players in those 2 situations executed their assignment, we win easily.

Even with all that, if we blitz Casey Dick, the worst quarterback in the SEC, on 4th and 11 in OT, we win. Our defense was just miserable that entire game.

Defense was the reason we didn't go undefeated. Not saying they weren't good, but our O did a good enough job to win almost every game.

Especially when you compare the way Chavis's UT defense totally shut down Arkansas's Wild Hog that same year.

Don't forget the TD pass that was called back because Byrd wasn't lined up properly.

I don't think Arky runs the wild hog that much anymore with Petrino around.

And with people that think Arky is a lock, i said that last year, and would have lost $2000 dollars had I chose to bet. B/c i was that confident. Even with our shoddy defense and JJ starting, still thought we would beat Arky. ARky was terrible last year, and i think they will be better this year. Although, LSU should be better. I'm not considering Arkansas a lock anymore.
