re: Can anyone provide evidence Joe Alleva has a clue what he's doing?

Are you asking to bring Brady Ball back?? Really?? Outside of '06, we were the same old sub-par basketball team...still not showing up on any legitimate basketball radar. Look, I know a lot of people don't want to admit this, but LSU just isn't a basketball school, and barring that Coach K, decides to come in next year, it will stay like that for a while

Who mentioned Brady besides you? He has a winning record where he is.
Going from a Final 4 in 2006 to not being able to win 4 SEC games, is a complete nosedive. LSU Basketball is in a downward spiral.
LSU used to have the Deaf Dome. It's now an Echo Chamber.

I agree, but this doesn't have to do with Joe Alleva...which is what this thread began as. He brought in a good basketball coach in Trent Johnson. All of the previous players who were here were upperclassmen when he got here and the rest left. He has basically had to rebuild a program from scratch. Trent has brought in a Top 25 recruiting class to a 10-17 team, he knows what he's doing, we are just undersized and inexperienced

Skip also hired Smoke Laval and Pokey. How'd those work out for us? Point being that you can't say Alleva sucks because of his first hire
Smoke was bad, but Pokey was one of the best coachs in the country and was good except for the off the court stuff. Don't know if an AD could've predicted that. Skip actually did pretty good as an AD.

I believe this sums up this thread pretty well....
I understand Mighty Joe typed up his own LSU bio.

Cry me a river........he knew what the sitution was when he signed on the dotted line. He's getting paid a helluva lot of money to win basketball games and he's failing miserably. The current situation is no ones fault but his own. Did someone force him not to bring in a JC guy or two after 09 to help stabilize things? I don't give a rats arse how he wants to build things, fact is in todays world of college athletics you don't get 5 years of suckage before you start winning.
The guy also had the opportunity to get Randy Livingston as a assistant coach in the offseason who probably could help with recruiting New Orleans, but instead he hired a friend who is in his 60's and certainly far from an ace recruiter. This mess is on his hands.
Why do you people not realize it's not that we're not competitive in the SEC, we're not competitive in the state......Nicholls St. has passed us up for crying out loud.

Seventeen of LSU's 20 sports programs participated in post-season competition in 2009-10, including the Tiger football squad that played in a bowl game for the 10th straight season. Six LSU teams posted Top 10 national finishes last season, and 12 were ranked among the Top 25. LSU finished in the Top 20 of the Learfield Director's Cup rankings, which measure overall athletic success for institutions across the country.
Under Alleva's direction in 2008-09, all 20 LSU sports competed in NCAA post-season play for the first time in school history, and it culminated with the baseball team winning the national championship. In addition, six teams finished in the top 10 nationally. LSU was the only school in the Southeastern Conference to participate in a bowl game and the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments during 2008-09. Furthermore, LSU student-athletes volunteered a total of 2,360 hours for community service projects.
this thread should have ended as soon as this was posted

What else has he done at LSU?
Hired a losing Basketball coach, charged enormous amounts of money for windows made of glass not diamonds & charging enormous fees for parking at Football games?
He can thank Skip for most of his Bio.

sometimes keeping things as they are is good also....see above article

obviously you don't know how much windows cost

and Skip screwed alot of people by chaining off tailgate areas and kicking people from their spots that had be there 20+ years. And it's hardly an "enormous" fee

Pretty sure his job is to make as much money for LSU Athletics as possible. Considering people paid for that stuff, I'd say it was a success.

Once again, last year and this year are two different times....but it seems like you have a hard time grasping this concept.
There isn't much difference in attendence from last year and this year. Also this year you have season ticket holders paying extra per ticket for the tradition fund, not sure how that'll factor in. Tv is the driving force in all this anyway. That 21 % profit isn't going to disappear.

It's foolish to hold this against Alleva, because it would have occurred regardless of who was AD.
And as it's been said, the final numbers for basketball will not be off much from last year, if at all. Most of the money generated is from season ticket sales and tv revenue.

LSU Basketball is now in the red, it's not making money.
To be fair, when Trent Johnson was in the process of winning the SEC title in his very first year, LSU fans still weren't able to sell out the PMAC.

They also lost to a bunch of unranked teams and will surely not be ranked whenever the new polls are released. BTW, LSU used to have a top 5-10 softball program.
I believe they lost three games over the weekend. One to a ranked Oklahoma St., and two (by one run each) to Houston, the host of the tournament they were playing in. How is that a bunch?

I really don't care for Alleva, especially after how he and Duke President Brodhead and the Duke faculty completely botched the handling of the the Duke Lacrosse situation and especially, if true, from the book that was written on the events that took place from the Lacrosse coach that Alleva forced him to resign titled "It's Not About The Truth: The Untold Story of the Duke Lacrosse Case and the Lives It Shattered" in which the title comes from Alleva's own words...
the day Alleva told Coach Pressler they were contemplating letting him go and cancelling the season then later that same day when another event transpired (the email that was read on the air, later learning it too was a lie...the email had been edited), basically forcing the Coach to resign and Alleva's response to Pressler asking "why he wasn't willing to wait for the truth" was...
"it's not about the truth anymore, it's about the integrity of the university, it's about the faculty, the city, the NAACP, the protesters, and the other interest groups."
IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE ABOUT THE TRUTH!
What took place at Duke was nothing more than a modern day witch hunt where only a handful of people wanted the truth, the rest wanted to rush to judgement, worried about how they "looked" to the public and others (Nifong, Black Panthers, Al Sharpten, etc) to add another notch on their belts at the expense of others even though the evidence pointed that they were innocent of the charges...
I have not found anything where Alleva ever denies making this statement, if someone has a link I would like for you to post it so I could read but if this is true I have nothing for the man or anyone else he thinks this way...I know first hand what it's like to be falsely accused of something, thankfully I didn't have a "Nifong" DA looking at the case and who indeed wanted the truth...
sorry for the Rant...

If LSU shows a profit for 2010/2011 Basketball, it will mean someone put the money for the "New Football Parking Permits" in the Basketball column.
Profits will actually look slightly higher than last year because of the reseating of the student section area for season ticket holders. You have no idea how many of those empty seats you see are actually already paid for.
