Somethings not right with Delpit.

Don’t know if it’s his injury nagging him, he’s tentative because he’s afraid of reinjuring it, he’s tentative because he’s thinking of his draft stock, but he’s not the same.

Before this game, he was generally in the right position to make plays, but just didn't make them. This game he was really bad.

Well i guess lsu is gonna live and die by coach o sticking with aranda....we having a great year overall since 2011...but defensively the output has been crippled since aranda has been at lsu...you cannot run that scheme and play good much less great on defense in the sec and it's been proven every year he has been here that he cant...

Whatever arandas scheme was in each game, both failed horribly 9m defense and without Brady and the change on offense this year, we most likely would have lost our 4th game this year last night...we have seen burrow in the old offense last year versus this year...we lucky....

Exactly

We would be 5 and 5 right now at best...

Loses to

Texas
Fla
Auburn
Bama
Ole miss

Possibly even vandy because they scored 38...

Brady offense led by burrows single handedly bailed out the lsu D in 5 games....TRUTH....

I’d go with a “D”

We had 9 stops, one of their TDs was on a drive starting at our 35 yard line, we got an INT, we stepped up on defense whenever they had opportunities to make it a 1 score game (all of their long TDs were while we were up by 3+ scores), and we only gave up 7 points in the 1st half (and Grant Delpit looked very much injured). Yes, we gave up long runs and just half to play better and with more energy which is why I’m giving them a D, but I think we did do some nice things on defense. Rest, healing up, and higher energy will get us back to where we need to be.

So you’re in favor of firing Orgeron? I mean... he is a defensive coach.

I don't know about that. We've been ranked lower in terms of scoring defense each year he's been here, but the Texas AM game raised our scoring defense by four points, as we had given up 177 points in the 11 previous games, which led to a scoring defense of 16.09 points/per game, good enough for the top ten. Our opposition passer rating was in the top ten, though we had trouble pressuring the QB last year too.

I think he's good enough to be a top DC, but there is a cautiousness about his approach this year, where we are in the base scheme quite a bit of the time.

Fundamentally, the issue is that we aren't getting enough pressure from the front 7, as we only have 21 sacks. The opposition passer rating has gone from 106.1 last year to 122.6 this year. We have to be better in our base scheme too, as the bad angles and poor tackling isn't related to scheme, though it can be attributed to coaching.

reminds me of all the games the D bailed out miles' offense. it bit him in the arse many times. that is all we are trying to tell people now but they continue to stay ignorant about performance and only look at records like they did under miles!

No...auburns weak freshman quarterback play won the game for lsu...our defense didn't win the auburn game now you shut the frick up...without the 2019 lsu offense against a great auburn defense , Lsu loses period...dude , vandy scored 38...aranda sucks balls, the lsu defense is HORRIBLE

Before this year, how many times did the D bail out the offense, under both Miles and Orgeron?

Aranda's downward trend really began with the A&M game, as we've given up 27 points per game since the A&M game last year. Before then, the scoring defense was in the top ten, outperforming the 2017 D.

It wasn't a great performance, but Aranda shouldn't be held responsible for points he didn't give up.

I too see the LBs as the biggest issue, not the only... but the most impactful.

Yes, the DB failures stick out like a sore thumb, cost TDs, and are indeed real issues.

But the LBs have had more consistent issues, for longer, and are the basis that makes this defense work (or fail). They are out of position way too much. They don't get sideline to sideline (as mentioned above). Many times the seem content to get behind a DL and watch the play go by. So like Fat Bastard said... no gap control.

Also someone mention trouble with zone reads. They struggle with keys period, and those confound them the most. Hence part of the reason for being out of position and losing control of the gaps.

We are seeing an effect of losing Divinity (who did play sideline to sideline regularly). But that's not a source, it's just compounding the issue.

For that game I agree...

I thought if aranda graded every player every game, there couldn't be any players who grade above a "c"...I mean although stingley has been burned, being a freshman and the fact he has 4 or 5 picks and many break ups...he is the only player that can even hit a "b" maybe...most would get f's or d's unless they lying to them...I mean I haven't even witnessed the lsu defense playing "pissed off" in any aranda coached game..I mean , can aranda even piss his players off ? Can he get them up for a game? Can any of them play angry or with a chip on their shoulders? Are they all "soft"?....one complete game where the defense shuts down a team would be nice, just "once"....
