From what I've seen, Harris has way more "pocket presence" than Jennings. When Harris doesn't see anything down field, he takes off for positive yards.

Jennings had that same pocket presence in the spring game last year and against Arkansas backed up on his own half inch line. He's been tentative to run ever since like he does not want to be known as a running QB. Like he refuses to take off.

What he needs to realize is that his athleticism will carry him until he can make quicker and better decisions in the pass game. They need to tell him to play free and relaxed.

Gotta love everyone putting all their eggs in a basket based off the 1 part of Spring Practice that was public

no one is saying harris won the job, but jennings didn't look like a quality qb out there... he was overwhelmed.

True sophomore with only one start versus a true freshman. IMO, Miles isn't going to decide who starts just because Harris is a freshman. There really isn't that big of a difference between freshman and sophomore if Harris knows the play book as well as Jennings. If Harris can get the job done better than Jennings than he will start. Freshman or sophomore won't matter.

almost feel bad for Jennings

Is there a possibility some plays will be designed for both to be on the field at the same time?

We often forget that Les and Cam see them in action a lot more than we do. Jennings didn't look great in the bowl game or spring game, but I'm sure Harris has had his less than stellar moments as well, we just haven't seen them. Whoever doesn't start against Wisconsin will get his shot at some point this year. We'll see who takes advantage.

It was a scrimmage. One of several that took place during Spring Practice, and the only one that fans got to see.

Everyone is always excited about the shiny new toy. And believe me, I'm excited about Harris' future, but the people sleeping on Jennings because of a poor outing on a wet field against a good defense (Cap 1 Bowl) and 1 bad scrimmage are completely clueless.

Oh, I agree. If Jennings' first start was against Directional State U and we still won by 30, we'd be hearing a lot more of "oh, it was his first start, he'll be OK", and spring games can be an entirely different animal. I remember hearing that a defender who made one of the interceptions said he only made it because he knew the play they were running. We really aren't hearing much about Jennings at all, mostly because of Harris, but Cam knows what he's doing. Both of them will get their shot this year, we'll just have to see who comes through.

Perhaps one was trying too hard to execute the play that was called, and one wasn't trying hard enough.

and if he stinks it up against wisconsin? doesn't it become a trend?

i trust cam will make the right choice, I just don't have much confidence in jennings after seeing the last two times he took the field. hopefully he turns it around. i'm sure both QB's will play this year a good bit.

Not really. Hypothetically, that will have been TWO career starts, separated by nine months.

A poor start does, however, put some heat on him. He knows that he has a ferociously competitive and talented young gun that will be pushing him. Just as Harris knows that he has to work his arse off to stand out over a sophomore with some experience to become "the man".

And this is all under the assumption that Jennings starts the first game. None of us know a damn thing about how the fall will shake out. But I'm glad we have two young, talented, hard-working guys with great attitudes under the guidance of an excellent QB coach. Competition breeds excellence.

During the spring scrimmage, perhaps one QB stayed with the play too long, and one QB abandoned the play too quickly.

This. Having Harris and Jennings competing, especially under Cam, will make them both better, no matter who ends up with the starting job. Much better position than only having one of them.

I'd take 1 NT in 3 or 4 years FWIW. I get hoping for more but Flynn wasn't chopped liver. Would also take Flynn's winning percentage; 12-2 as starter including 2-0 in bowls if I recall and directed one of the more prolific Tiger offenses in history. Without JR being here Flynn's career numbers would have been outstanding IMO.
