Seems like a lot of what is being discussed on the site since Saturday was addressed in this column from a few weeks ago

Guilbeau article from Oct 23, 2014

quote:

BATON ROUGE – Brandon Harris knows he may not play in LSU's biggest game of the year, so far, Saturday night when the No. 3 Tigers host No. 3 Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium. And that's killing him, but he is dealing with it and will be ready just in case.

"Obviously, you want to be out there as a competitor. It's so hard," Harris said during a candid, 45-minute interview with Shreveport Times columnist Tim Fletcher on his hometown KWKH/1130 AM Radio in Shreveport on Monday morning.

"That's one of the biggest adjustments in college because in high school, I was always a part of that. And if you're not in there early on, it's hard to watch," Harris said. "You're so competitive, and you feel like you didn't help towards that victory if you don't play. That's one of the biggest things in understanding your role on the team."

The entire KWKH interview is available at https://soundcloud.com/thetimfletchershow/sets/brandon-harris-oct20-2014.

A true freshman quarterback who threw for 3,172 yards and 34 touchdowns last season at Parkway High in Bossier City, Harris threw just one pass in LSU's 41-3 home win over Kentucky last Saturday. And it was intercepted. He did not play the previous week in the Tigers' thrilling, 30-27, victory at Florida. Instead, sophomore starter Anthony Jennings completed 10 of 21 passes for 110 yards, including 4-of-10 for 73 yards in the fourth quarter with the go-ahead touchdown, a third-and-25 conversion and four first-down completions in all.

Harris last played a lot at Auburn on Oct. 4 when he started his first collegiate game, but completed just 3 of 14 passes for 58 yards and had play management issues in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage in a 41-7 loss. Jennings, who started the bowl win last season and the first five games this season, took over with 5:28 to go in the third quarter at Auburn, then started at Florida and against Kentucky and will start Saturday night.

LSU coach Les Miles did not name a starter the week after the Auburn game and said that "both may have to start," as the season goes on. But Harris did not play against Florida the next week. He suffered a minor ankle injury at Auburn and wore a protective boot for one day.

"It didn't affect my preparation. I went through a perfect treatment process throughout the week. I felt ready to go in the Florida game," Harris said to Fletcher. "The opportunity didn't present itself where I could win that game. Totally understandable. We won the game. So I mean that's what it's all about. We won. So there weren't any complaints on my end."

Fletcher was Harris' senior mentor while Harris was at Parkway and the two have remained close. Harris received permission from LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette to do the interview as Miles usually allows freshmen only to be interviewed after games in which they had a prominent role. Half of the interview did not deal with LSU football. Harris discussed the Parkway-Byrd game that was played Thursday night, his high school career, his love of the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Tony Romo, his admiration of Shreveport area teammates Jermauria Rasco, a starting defensive end at LSU, and starting cornerback Tre'Davious White, and his overall adjustment to college and academics.

Harris did address the Auburn game as Fletcher asked if the moment was too big for him as fans and radio show callers said in the days after the game.

"I don't think the moment was too big for me at all," Harris said. "If I could do it over, I think that game would be a different outcome. You can't rush basically God's time. People want you to put up these numbers as a true freshman."

Harris, the No. 2 dual threat prep quarterback in the nation according to ESPN, signed with LSU in December as an early graduate of Parkway, enrolled at LSU in January and outperformed Jennings in the spring game. He heightened fans' expectations by putting up big numbers in back-to-back spectacular performances in relief of Jennings early this season. He completed 6 of 9 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns in less than four minutes against Mississippi State in a 34-29 loss on Sept. 20. Then he completed 11-of-14 for 178 yards and three touchdowns while rushing five times for 36 yards and two touchdowns in a 63-7 win over New Mexico State on Sept. 27. Jennings, meanwhile, threw two interceptions, fumbled and was benched. Harris, though, could not keep his momentum going at Auburn.

"A lot of people are unrealistic when it comes to expectations right off the bat," Harris said. "What they don't realize is it takes time. And the moment was not too big at all at Auburn. I just had a bad game. And I don't think that will ever happen again if I was to be granted that opportunity in the future to go out and play."

When that will be, Harris does not know.

"I'm told every week to go into the game like you're going to play," he said. "And that's what I try to do regardless. Obviously, you've got to be ready because you never know the situation. As a freshman, I'm hoping to go into every game and play a significant role or any type of role where I can contribute to help the team win. That's my deal. Like I said, I'm just so competitive, and I just want to be out there so bad. I would hope they wouldn't have recruited me here if I wasn't competitive because it's all about competing."

Jennings, meanwhile, has made significant, game winning plays on long completions in the fourth quarters against Arkansas last season and Wisconsin and Florida this season, but his overall numbers are average. He is 13th in the SEC and 64th nationally in passing efficiency this season at 132.1 on 64-of-128 passing for 1,048 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Harris is 25 of 45 for 452 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions for a 175.0 efficiency mark.

"I think he continues to do the things that we want him to do more," Miles said of Jennings. "I think he's becoming more accurate. I think he understands the style of throws better."

While waiting for his next opportunity, Harris tries to help his teammates win games by the way he practices.

"Obviously, you want to be out there as a competitor. You get the opportunity, you want to help your team get the victory," he said. "That can also find me practicing hard that week, giving our receivers opportunities that may help them get that victory. Any type of play, any type of thing you do in practice, it presents itself in the game. The receiver may see what you saw in practice, and you throw it and it's no different than Anthony throwing it. And that may help nail down that victory."

Harris was asked if he knows most of the playbook as critics maintain he does not.

"Everything that we have in for me to know, I know," he said. "I fully understand everything that's been in the playbook since I've been here."

Harris also continues to dream big despite how small his role may continue to be.

"It's like a dream to be here and try to lead this team to a national championship because I'm from the state of Louisiana," he said. "That was really my deal when I picked LSU. I came here to lead the team and do something that I haven't seen a Louisiana quarterback do."

Harris wants to be the first LSU quarterback from Louisiana to lead the Tigers to a national championship since Baton Rouge native Warren Rabb did so in 1958. Matt Mauck, the quarterback of the national champion Tigers in 2003, is from Jasper, Indiana. Matt Flynn, quarterback of the 2007 national champions, is from Tyler, Texas.

"I could've gone anywhere in the entire country to play quarterback," said Harris, who received scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Ohio State, UCLA, Texas A&M and several others.

"I was loyal to the state. I tried to help recruiting and get other guys here. We had some guys who left the state. I stayed home, and that means a lot to me," he said. [b]"At the end of the day, I just hope that pays off toward the end, and we go to a national championship one day down the road."

Absolutely nothing wrong or inappropriate in his comments, but they are seething with frustration and disappointment. I feel for him. I don't know that we have any insights into his attitude (though I jumped the gun on a Twitter post earlier this fall), but it's not difficult to imagine that he's unhappy in the situation he's in.

Everything this kid says is spot on. He sits, and doesn't display the JJ (and ever increasing AJ) "pouty face".

It's painfully obvious he needs to be installed as the starter and let him learn as we go, as bad as it might be.

The kid sounds like he's got a very solid outlook on his role.

man I could see why this interview landed him in the dog house. Rosetta is totally right, I can see why his teammates would be super upset about it.

There was nothing wrong with his comments, but this could be a reason Les is not playing him. Maybe the kid should have declined the interview. Maybe Les is trying to humble the young man, idk. He should have politely declined the interview and things might have been different. He basically said he know the offense, and the staff is lying about his playing time. Added, why recruit me here and sell me a dream and don't utilize my talents. Isn't that what you recruited me for? I stayed home to play, and this the treatment I get. Part of this is Miles fault for making him the backup QB and running off the other QBs.

Nothing wrong with any of that.

Any player on a team who doesn't want to be a starter needs to go to the house.

So that's from October. When did he start following all of those coaches on Twitter?

So as I said yesterday, the staff was purposefully perpetuating lies about Harris to deflect and redirect criticism coming in their direction.

Somebody get bobbarker's dumbass in here ASAP

And also as I said after his interview post-auburn, it's really sad and disheartening that the 18 year old freshman quarterback is more mature and handles himself better in the media than the 60+ year old head coach

Les can forgive you for knocking people out in a parking lot, but don't you dare give interviews you were given the green light to do. That son of a bitch needed to be taught a hard lesson.

Make the whole team suffer because you pick that to teach a lesson over? Yeah I don't buy it.
