Kick coverage was considerably better at the end of the season. So why the short kicks?

They were getting to the 30/35 on every return anyway. LSU was just trying to prevent a return for a TD.

we didn't do it the whole game. and the times we didn't pooch it our coverage was spot on they were held inside the 20 yd line.

their returner was a burner and we didn't want to give him a chance to bring one to the house. it appears our kicker can't kick it into the end zone.

Need a kicker who can kick it out of the end zone like every other team

Miles said in the post game that they squibbed or pooched it because TTech has "best returner in the nation" and they didn't want to give them any momentum

That way the truth isn't revealed that we don't have a kicker to put it out of the end zone

If your strategy is to let the other team have the ball at their 35 why not just kick it out of bounds to the 15 or so?

Reason 1

Reason 2

Reason 3

Reason 4

Anymore questions on why we didn't kick deep? He's their all-time leading kick returner in school history and led the country averaging 45 yards per return at one point. Probably the best returner I've seen since Hester.

So why not kick it out of the end zone? They get it at the 25 instead of the 35.

Special teams are a joke.

Isn't that the sole reason Gamble was offered a scholarship?

To be politically incorrect, bad special teams coaching and not recruiting a kicker that can put it out of the end zone.

A Texas Tech fan sitting next to me said their kickoff receiver was top notch, one of the best in the country. So, I took this as the reason for the short kickoffs

Because Tech has a damn good set of return men. Keep it away from them and make sure you are able to cover kick. Good strategy, paid dividends.
