Assuming LSU wins out and both Bama and UGA make playoff. Does that put LSU in what would have been the SEC Sugar Bowl slot?

Does getting two SEC teams in mean one of the New Years Six does not have to take another SEC team?

There is no Sugar Bowl slot this year because the Sugar Bowl is a semifinal game this year.

Yes I know which is why I said "what would have been the Sugar Bowl slot"

Well if UGA and Bama wins out that leaves Auburn at 8-4 with a loss to us and Mississippi St likely 9-3 with a win over us. The way the polls look right now if both us and State finish 9-3 they will be ranked ahead of us and I assume would get the SEC's first bowl slot outside the playoff, if both Bama and UGA get in. The NY6 bowls are all at-large selections with the exception of the Group of 5 rule. As of last week I saw a projection that had us in the Cotton Bowl vs Oklahoma.

I believe for our best bowl outlook we need Bama and UGA to win out and have a close SEC championship game. I think both get in the CFP with that. Then State to drop one of Arky or Ole Miss. That puts us at 3rd in the SEC standings. And then just more chaos like these last two weeks. We would be going into the bowls with lots of momentum finishing 6-1 with a tough game vs Bama

Looks like our most likely destinations would be Orlando again for the Citrus or Tampa for the Outback assuming we win out.

Ole miss played in the chick fil a bowl
Miss st played in the orange bowl

In 2014 (when sugar bowl was not an option because of playoff format).
Ole miss was 9-3 when they played.

It just depends honestly how we are ranked end of the year.
Auburn has to lose to UGA and bama.
Miss state has to lose at least 1 more game. If they lose 2 and we win out we will be next highest ranked sec team. (This is if bama and uga are undefeated in sec championship). If miss st only loses 1 game then we would have same record end of year at that point it’s who is ranked higher to represent sec.

I started looking at some projections and it looks like if Notre Dame misses the playoff they will end up in the Orange instead of taking an SEC team.

I am not up on the rules but I'd think, if things work out as they should, LSU would be #3 in the SEC with Bama and UGA in the playoffs:
1) LSU- 2 SEC losses (Bama and MS State)
2) MS State- 3 SEC losses (Bama, UGA, Auburn)
3) Auburn- 3 SEC losses (LSU, UGA, Bama).

I guess it may come down to final rankings? I can't imagine any bowl choosing either MS State or Auburn as having better traveling fans than LSU...

I forgot state has bama to play. So assuming they lose that one and auburn loses to bama and uga with us winning out. We would be sec team to represent in a New Years six bowl.

With the current ranking as of today.

Playoff:
Uga
Bama
Nd
Clemson

NY6:
Oklahoma-big 12 champ
Wisconsin-big 10 champ
Washington- pac 12 champ
UCF- non power 5 conference champ
LSU- sec rep
Miami-acc runner up
Ohio state/Mich St- runner up
Last slot whichever team is ranked highest in top 10.

Obviously a lot of scenarios but I can see us in a NY6 bowl if we win out.

The sec had 3 representatives in 2014 so it’s not out of the question. We just need to win out and have a better ranking at the end of the year.

That is not a given. In your scenario, LSU and MS State would both finish at 9-3. They absolutely waxed us this year and I doubt the selection committee will just ignore that because we are the bigger name.

I think we play in Orlando again this year.

Under my first assumption I was looking at total record not sec record. If state loses to bama they finish:
5-3

We would be 6-2. We then become the next best sec team outside of Uga and bama. Their win vs us gets thrown out the window.

My best guess is the Outback in Tampa.

If LSU wins out they may go to the Outback or Citrus. The Peach is possible but only if two SEC teams make the playoffs and the third of the three SEC championship contenders (most likely Auburn) utterly collapses
