People keep posting this. Like I asked in a previous thread what did he have them rated in 2022 because it’s essentially the same staff from last year minus the DL coach and they had a top 40 defense in 2022 that was led by transfers and an elite true freshman.

It’s really hard for me to believe Cain is considered an elite DL coach, Venables would have kept him if that were the case. I think even Pete Jenkins mentioned he had issues teaching techniques.

And BK is rumored to still keep House. This may be a total shite show on defense for years

That's why I don't trust BK. We are ND playing in the SEC.

Bartoo says he had Cain ranked as a top 2 DL coach

It’s not like Venables replaced Cain with a nobody; Bates is pretty fricking good

Then you had USC and LSU fighting over Cain

How this OP can be downvoted surprises me - even on this board.

These guys can’t coach fundamentals to mid-level talent - much less the few guys we have that are better.

LSU deserves better. Now.

Is Cain being run off just accepted as fact now?

You know how these things go on the Rant.

I didn’t see much “ran off” talk until very recently, now it’s really starting to spread.

Felt it was widely discussed when Cain first left.

Not going to sit here and say I know for sure, but I know the narrative when Lindsey was hired that it was going to benefit the defense because everyone would now be on the same page

Insiders 100% confirm this. If you look at Jamar Cain's tweets, he likes tweets from Culotta saying as much.

This defensive staff sucks and I've been saying it on the other boards since the moment we hired Jimmy Lindsey. Awful.

If you need a search firm , your in the wrong business

Either adapt and evolve or be left behind. You're absolutely wrong with this take. You absolutely need a search firm. Schools have BEEN utilizing firms for quite awhile now. However, Mr. Bartoo's firm actually has data on just about every FBS and FCS coach. There are a ton of metrics they input and keep a data base. I believe he stated it took over 60,000 hours to complete.

Not only do they look at performance numbers of the units you coach, they also input data based on recruiting. For instance, as stated, Jamar Cain is considered a extremely highly graded coach in his position AND elite in recruiting. He grades out in about the top 2% of his position.

LSU's defensive staff grades out as bottom 5% of all P5 school AND they're currently underperforming that metric. Conversely, the offensive staff grades out in the top 35% as a staff and they're currently over-performing that.

He provided the info and states LSU could very easily hire a much better staff for defense. You should at least follow the link and watch it, it's pretty neat. For anyone wondering, the defensive performance and rankings from this season won't be input until December 15th. Therefore, that bottom 5% ranking was BEFORE the horrendous season they're now having.

Lsu beats ole miss and has a plethora of good DL commits had BK not been so stupid.

Cain did well recruiting Jacks last year, but the DT issues actually began with him. He didn’t land any last year, either. What makes you think he would have been hitting home runs this season?

For the record, I also think it was stupid to let House run him off when the DL performed well last season. I just don’t think we can assume he would have been significantly better in recruiting guys we have missed on.

Nobody is mentioning the rankings. He mentions his data is compiled based on the following:

Recruiting 70%
Coaching 29%
Home Field, Misc 1%

Entirely possible to be a high performing recruiting towel waiver that teaches bad technique...and get a very high score in his matrix.

His data should be one data point in decision making. Not the only data point.
