re: Billy Gonzales as Offensive Coordinator

Our receiving corps has been the worse I have seen at lsu in a long time. Poor routes, dropped passes, no blocking.
Is this a product of disgruntled receivers due to poor qb play? I think it's got a lot to do with it. You get those guys the ball and get them in the game and it changes their attitude.
It's like team roping, you can't expect your healer to be world class when your header only turns half the steers.

Oh god no, not Ensminger.

Not a democracy but I vote for Coach Steve Ensminger to take over as OC. Former LSU starting QB, has OC experience at Clemson and Texas A&M (Aggies were 25-9-1 during his three years as OC including 10-0-1 in '94 and a 9-3 record in '95 and they beat Michigan in a Bowl game). My question is why isn't HE coaching LSU QBs? He was the QB coach at Georgia, Auburn and Clemson. Why is coaching Tight Ends at LSU? Given the QB issues, seems like Les would shift him to focus on the weakest part of the offense.
You have a point and I don't know why it hasn't been brought up before. This is definitely something to think about

If Gary Crowton gets fired at the end of the season, who would want Billy Gonzales to take over as offensive coordinator?

i think we'll easily win 9 games; so, LM will still be the HC next season. that said, Alleva should have a sit down with LM and suggest that whether its GC or some other OC, LM needs to not be as involved in the offense. i think that's what's causing the confusion. GC isn't able to fully do his job. LM should focus on recruiting, roster mgmt, clock mgmt, program mgmt and let his assistants do the job they are paid to do.

I guess that's about what I expected most peoples thoughts to be after half a season and I don't think it gets any better.
It's kind of amazing how many people jumped off the Billy Gonzales bandwagon.

how about this for an opinion?
I don't know - I'm worried that LSU's WRs haven't seemed to improve (in fact they have dropped a ton of balls this year) so I'm not sure I'd feel excited about promoting Gonzalez based on results
If LSU were to recruit from elsewhere one name I would put out there is David Yost from MU - they have had some pretty good offenses and benefited from good QB development under his coaching

After watching Missouri, David Yost would be a good choice.

Give me the OC from Oklahoma St. all day long, he was the OC at Houston before that.

Their last 3 QBs:
Brad Smith
Chase Daniel
Blaine Gabbert
all of whom have been among the best in their conference - Jimbo haters can say what they like but lacking a coach who develops QBs has seemed like a bit of a disaster at LSU

Am I the only one that gets hard at the thought of throwing the bank at Chris Ault for OC?
Not a chance he would leave his HC job at his alma mater, but I can dream.

Hell, he invented a formation

It's not like anyone really has the drops besides TT who has had them his entire career.
I'd much rather go out and get the guy from Mizzou, Okie St, or anyone who has success with a pass first offense.

ya, not a chance
he's head coach at Nevada and they are 6-1 atm
If we're going to throw out wishes how about Norm Chow leaves the west coast to coach at LSU? That seems almost as unlikely
Posted on 10/26/10 at 12:27 pm to molsusports
According to the rant we are an elite program and we should be able to get whoever we want, because the privilege of coaching at LSU is the mecca of sports.
Norm Chow would probably volunteer as a consultant to be associated with LSU

I'd like it. Doesn't seem like he's doing much now..
