Billy Jr. returned a punt against Istrouma (his dad's alma mater) 89 yds for a TD on Halloween Night 1979. True story.
I remember the blurb in Sports Illustrated about this.

I asked Billy Jr. why he didn't go to LSU and he said "because A and M paid me more".Don't know if he was joking or not,but that is what he said.

BCJ was a stud. Lots going on around LSU/BR at that time, made a decision that was best for him.
Quick story, I had a little bit of smoke on my arm as a kid, playing american legion, Jr knew my coach, came out to practice one day, wanted to see my heat....I threw, the ball ended up 500 feet away and when my teammates went and got it....the mofo had hit it so hard the damn thing was warped.....the dude had literally crushed a baseball, I shitte you not....I think I was 12 or 13

Doc, Broadmoor sent Billy Jr, Wally, and Bucky, to ATM, Aggie feeder-school. Who would've known Rusty Price was an Aggie fan?
**sarcasm above**
All three were just recruited hard by Slocum and Co. And ATM at the time, was a very consistent program, one that had great recruiting success in SW La.

Sherill?...or was RC over recruiting the area? Jerry Fontenot from Laffy around 1985-86 could be added as well.
Big question is if Bunny's country singing career ever got started.

He was the McDonald's All American Defensive Captain his senior year. I do not know the criteria for the position, but I'm going to guess you have to have skills.
Billy lettered in four sports at Broadmoor, and played offense and defense in football and special teams and even kicked a few times. Our team was undefeated in regular season play his senior year. Coach Carter's office was a revolving door of college coaches coming to see Billy or some of his teammates. I met Bo Rein when he was there before the crash. Not sure what swayed Billy to A&M.

I played against him in football and baseball (he went to Broadmoor, I went to Lee High). As good a football player as he was, I think he was a better baseball player. Nice guy too.

He is friends with my brother-n-law (he was bestman at the wedding) from what I remember he went to A&M to play baseball mainly. A&M had a better program then LSU at the time

Coach Carter's office
Right outside my 10th grade Civics class (which he "taught"). We had him on the split lunch period (first half). We'd always holler into his office (where he was watching game film) and tell him that we were going to the cafeteria to get our lunch tickets and then we'd just take off. He didn't give a frick.
He did bust my cronies and I one time doing something however, and I took a few licks from him.
I remember Boots Garland and Bat Gourrier visiting his office quite often for some reason.

Met Stokeld once at a reunion but Meador was still the principal when I was there.
