HITF do you think classic deep shots were even setup for years? with ball control run game.

Yep.You set up deep shots by running the ball

You have no idea what the frick you are talking about. If you love pro-style offenses that have all but disappeared from college football (and for good reason), go cheer for Jimbo and A&M. You might want to check out their yards per play and yards per pass averages the last few years first. That’s true ball control and it results in self-imposed offensive mediocrity.

So we gonna make a scrambling QB a pocket passer who distributes the ball?

and you can use runs or passes to control the ball. there are SPREAD passing teams who practice ball control. it is not just done with runs. as a matter of fact one of them upset us a few years back at home in 2017. that team used ball control passing for years.

Sure, you can be State and run a relatively easy to box in and contain “ball control” passing attack. And you can be 76th in yards per play and 68th in scoring per game and barely make a bowl. It’s a fine strategy if you have a very accurate QB without a big arm and have less talent all around than most of the rest of the conference. It’s an absolute fricking waste if you have one of the top 5 WR corps in college football, which we do this year.

It’s as if some of you forgot last season. Thanks to the fact that Max couldn’t consistently hit deep shots, we basically played a ball control spread, even if it wasn’t by choice. Once Boutte went down, no DC bothered dropping extra guys in coverage unless it was an obvious passing down, milling spacing and making running the ball and short to medium range passing more difficult.

If you can’t keep a defense honest by proving you can hit deep pass plays consistently today, the rest turns into a long drive slog devoid of big plays. DCs will just crowd the box, jump routes and suffocate you. Balance between run and pass and in where you attack with the pass is just essential to a dynamic modern offense. Our starting QB doesn’t have to be 2019 Joe, but they damn sure need to be able to consistently hit 30+ yard routes to create the spacing for the rest of the offense to work.

The biggest reason he is going to start is because the only competition he has is injured, he fits the offense Kelly & Denbrock want to run and it doesn’t really mean anything as far as how our game will turn out but he actually beat Florida State already in a bowl game three years ago so it’s not like he’s going to be scared, nervous, feel like the moments to big and choke that first game…

Yeah, that’s against sieve defenses in the PAC12, can you imagine against the SEC?

Then let Nuss start, he can make the throws and doesn't have a foot in the bucket. Don't settle for someone who can only make 80% of the throws. That's dumb. Burrow was a 4.7/40 guy and was very effective when he ran because the defense was on their heels, he could throw all the throws and could read/breakdown defenses.
