this should be about winning

Well that's a 1.3 million dollar decision right there.
LSU is getting its' money's worth. LOL.

You're a bitch and I hate you.

you don't hate me as much as the people in the thread about Culotta's comments. I seem to have really upset folks.

And I don't have issue with it. This team is going nowhere. It's Bianco's last chance to play in the park he grew up in. He's throwing him and his dad a bone. The likelihood of this affecting wins/losses is negligible at this point and even if it did, it has no effect in the long run.
I actually agree. Everyone who has played 2nd base this year has sucked when inserted into the starting lineup. Cranford and Arnold are both hitting below .160 in SEC play. They're a combined 6/45 at the plate. We're not doing anything or going anywhere, so might as well throw Bianco a bone playing against his dad. The only other move that would make sense at this point would be moving Dugas to 2nd and put one of the sitting freshmen in left field.

How much will Vitello cost?

A lot less than Mainieri unless Tennessee changes course and invests money in their program which they never have or will IMO. He makes like $400k right now. Mainieri's buyout can't be very significant at this point either. There is a 0% chance Tennessee would outspend us, so it really comes down to how important money is to him.

His buyout is low right now.

He makes like $00k right now.
ETA: I couldn't help it. It's 400k right?

couldn't edit quick enough
He makes aroundf $400k

So you could pay him 500k and his difference in salary to PM's would pay PM's buyout in just a few years. Seems easy enough.

June 2019

Following a remarkable first two seasons leading the Tennessee baseball program, head coach Tony Vitello has agreed to a contract extension through June of 2024, Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer announced Wednesday.
The extension includes salary increases, with Vitello set to earn $580,000 next season. His salary rises to $650,000 by the end of the agreement.

Ok, so even at the end of the contract, it caps out at about half of what Mainieri is paid and way less than half of what LSU would likely be willing to pay for a baseball coach. There is no way Tennessee is paying that much for a baseball coach, even to keep a winning one

Apparently coaches contracts are public documents posted to the UT site:

ETA: I don't think this is the current one

Am I reading a 0$ buyout come July 1?

I don't think it's zero, I think that's an old contract.
I do think it's lower than the new AD would like it to be.

Here is a link to his current contract signed in 2019. His base pay caps out at $350k in 2024. The rest is all incentive based:
1) make SECT - 4% of base salary
2) make NCAAT - 8%
3) host regional - 12%
4) win SEC regular season title or SECT - 16%
5) make super regionals - 20%
6) host super regional at top 8 seed - 24%
7) make CWS - 28%
8) win national title - 32%
His buyout is $1 million dollars or the amount remaining on the contract, whichever is smaller, if he is fired by the school. If he leaves on his own, his buyout is $500k through June of 2022, $250k through June of 2023, and nothing thereafter

I don't think we need Vitello but I would like someone similar, hungry, recruits and brings energy. As long as our fans don't start wearing thick gold chains and partying above the dugout like the Tn fans did
