World record squat is 1274LBS. A real squat requires the arse to go below the knees. Parallel squats don't count.

You're just jealous because you've never used "Weight Gain 4000" to get superior results.

Sweet, check me out. I'm such a beefcake I can't even fit through the door.

bench press
Well considering i have a kid here in Iraq with me that does 502 (no bench shirt/no assist) that I saw with my own eyes (he is 192lbs) I can believe that a college athlete (50 lbs heavier) can do 100 lbs more

I am assuming that you guys are using kilo plates then right? Or are you counting the clips?

Moffit was on Jordy's show and said that Lyle Hitt had the best bench this year at over 500lbs.

Thats because he is after quick burst strength (which is what is involved in football). Same principal as is used in powerlifting. You train HEAVY weight w/ low reps to gain strength. Doing high reps is more for muscle endurance

please ellaborate on why the NFL prefers rep maxes.........this is rhetorical.

you are correct on form-related injuries, but injuries most certainly still occur due to overload.

Injuries do occur from overload (ie. weight you can do only when breaking form). So in a since you are right, but there is a difference between overload and heavy lifting.

I powerlifted for 7 years and was never once hurt, but since i have been doing more of a bodybuilding workout i have a injury at least every other month. More reps lead to more wear on your joints and tendons.

About the NFL and the 225lb rep test, that doesn't really mean shite imo. I max on bench 430lbs w/o a bench shirt at 210lbs and i can max rep 225 28 times. Now because i can do it 28 times does that mean i can bench more than some of these OL that do it less? I don't think so!

For you, as a powerlifter/bodybuilder, it wouldn't mean shite. For the football world it absolutely means more b/c you have to have a gauge of repetitive presses......you don't perform 1 rep on even one play. While you may not put much stock in it, the big boys in the NFL do and I'll go with them.

btw, I could out bench you [/quote]

SUUREEE in your protective internet world i am sure you could

Anyways, do you see OL of DL sitting there pushing on a guy over and over and over? NO, you see one big burst of movement by OL and then hold position then drive w/ the feet.

I tell you what, would take a big bruiser that could bench 6-700 over my small arse that can bench 225 28 times

hoss, I'z 4-reel......seriously

granted I haven't 1 repped in 5+ years, but my 34 reps would take you. I do outweigh you though by 30 lbs.....so a wash.

hamhock, what kind of FOOTBALL background do you have? You can give an opinion from the perspective of a powerlifter, but a trained FOOTBALL opinion has more credibility. Not a jab, but you are out of your element.

see, wrong analogy. I would take a big bruiser who could rep 225 for 45 reps (but only managed a 500 1 rep) over the other bruiser who threw up 600 lbs but could only rep 225 for 30. In the 4th quarter, reps matter......STAMINA!

Now, if there is another guy reppin 27 but cleans 400+ and squats 600+......he will whip both of their asses assuming they are bench press champs only.

The only record fact from LSU I remember was way back when Andolsek did 700 lbs. I do believe someone prob broke it since 1987.
