Heard yesterday that Rice figured out UL was altering the TPX sweet spots on their bats. If you shake their bats it sounds like little pieces of broken glass inside.
They are not altering anything. That just means they are really broken in. That is what a composite bat does when it gets "hot" I have heard some umps can make you change your bat if he hears that. You can't alter the sweet spot unless you shave the bat and I doubt they are that ballsy. The reason someone else is buying them all up is because they have the capability of being a really hot bat. Louisville slugger is putting out hellacious bats on every playing field right now. I heard they are having some serious problems with the bats breaking and cracking early though.

Is Ben's number still hanging up at the Box? If so, someone get over there stat with a bucket of paint.

Thanks for clarifying a bit. Certainly could be a factor in their bloated offensive stats.
ULL is a very good team, they took two of three from an Alabama team that leads the SEC and beat us!
However, it probably wouldn't be to much to think some of their offensive production is due to the level of competition they face on a week in week out basis especially in their conference and I think they would be a great offense in any conference but I don't think they would be putting up the crazy numbers they are now if they were in the SEC!
In regards to their bats being illegal, who knows. I do know that coaches and players all across the country are looking for any edge they can get, including at LSU!
I am more curious to see how ULL's potent offense translates in the postseason against better pitching, and if they were able to make it to TD Ameritrade Park, what if any adjustment they could make to be successful there because that is a park where home run teams will turn into nothing more than warning track power teams!

I heard Rantz on the radio talking about this. I was vaguely paying attention, but he claimed TPX found a way to make a bat that passed BBCore certification, but the more you use the bat the faster the exit speed.
I'm willing to bet that he was talking about ball speed. The more you use the bat the hotter it gets which means that it will have a more exaggerated trampoline effect causing much more ball speed off the bat. A really hot bat will have the glass sound, and you are right they did find a way to really skirt the line. I think everything is legal I would just expect a lot of teams to switch for next year or for there to be a quantum leap in bat technology soon.

Must be a negatiger.

Good info. You sound like you know what you're talking about.
Is it common to beat the crap out of the bats on something other than a baseball to exaggerate this trampoline effect much quicker than normal wear and tear would?

You couldn't be more wrong
If he were willing to travel, he'd be doing regular ESPN gigs
He's actually pretty good

I don't have a problem with what McDonald said. Up until this point, you could make a decent case that he's right.
Still doesn't mean a thing regarding the tournament, though. Last year's Vandy team was certainly better than this year's usl team is, and they choked in their own regional. I'm not saying that usl will do the same. I'm just saying that no team has really accomplished much of anything yet.
Plus, LSU has a track record of having success in the postseason. 6 CWS titles, and several other trips to Omaha. I think even usl fans would concede that they are in no position to talk smack to LSU.

Yes. You can do what is called rolling the bat to ensure faster break in time and it will possibly increase the longevity of the bat by giving an even break in of the whole bat. When you break a bat in you should turn it every few swings. Rolling allows you to have a really hot bat out of the wrapper with no marks or "uneven" spots on the inner wall.

Thanks.
Are you familiar with the TPX model of bat UL uses?

Before you ask yes rolling bats is pretty frowned upon and I would imagine indefinitely against the rules. Not saying that is what happened I truthfully don't know how that is tested for other than the machine will possibly leave some marks which I imagine would be disguised quickly. It would still be a pretty ballsy move by ull.

Well they definitely are bc players are running their mouths.

Just answered my own question by some pictures. Yes I am very familiar with them.

Not sure. Don't follow them that closely. I was just told they were off the market (whatever that means exactly)

It is the ones I thought they were. It is Louisville Sluggers. From pictures it looks like a couple of guys are swinging last years model which is common if a guy finds a bat he likes he swings it until it breaks. Unless they are sold out the bat they use is still being sold. They are just a very hot bat with strong capabilities in the right hands. I have swung the shite out of them and loved the results but anything with an endload (softball) from them is breaking within 100 solid hits. The balanced bat is a monster and I am seeing the same out of the bbcor bat.

Its borderline embarrassing how much petty stuff bothers some of yall
I am happy for ULL's success. I hope we can play them in the post season.
