PLEASE...a championship game that is the result of a playoff would NOT be bigger than a championship that was the result of the current system. The Dome is sold out for every BCS National Championship and 95% of Sugar Bowls. Every hotel room in the city is booked. Every restaurant is packed. A playoff will obviously not be "much bigger."
You are thinking from a TV/media perspective, not an economic perspective (which is understandable if you are unfamiliar with the nature of tourism, as most in LA are).
1/4 or 2/3 coupled with a BCSNCG > Sugar + BCSNCG
Money, people, tourism, tv, and economic impact.
Even if you theoretically lost fans from the BCSNCG, that would be made up by the increased people that would be there for the 1/4 or 2/3 version of the sugar bowl.
Think of it as increased attendance/money for the Sugar by a greater amount than the decrease attendance/money for the BCSNCG.

You keep saying that, but facts say otherwise.
Since the BCS championship game was implemented, attendance has only been below 70,000 once, and it has averaged around 75,000.
And TV cut doesn't help local businesses (obviously).
And just saying "more people would probably come I bet" doesn't make it true. Fan bases are limited in number and resources, there's no denying that.
Why do you think host cities and the bowls are content with the current system?
As a consumer and fan, it would be nice to watch premier matchups on TV. But it hurts New Orleans and Louisiana if that happens.

Just think how much more fun Nola would be his year if the BCS rules allowed Arky to play in the sugar this year. LSU, Arky, BAMA fans in the same zip code would be epic.

you completely underestimate how huge a playoff game would be in nola
you forget 1 of those 2 fanbases isn't guaranteed to go anywhere

How many people do you think attend the Sugar Bowl? Do you think the Sugar Bowl only draws Tulane-like attendance?
Last year's game had 74,000 people in attendance if I recall correctly (I know it was well over 70K).

4, 6 or 8 teams max is all that would be in a college football playoff.
Just make the BCS bowls alternating sites of the playoffs, keep the other bowls the same.
Then, just like the current system, you have a BCSNCG in one of those 4 cities
This. It's really not complicated, despite what BCS proponents say.

I'm not underestimating anything.
What you forget is that BOTH of those fanbases are convinced they are going somewhere.

So you want our US govt to get involved???? Have you noticed they can't fix anything????

Ultimately, facts are facts.
Some people want a playoff system so badly, they refuse to believe that it could negatively affect New Orleans businesses and Louisiana as a whole.
This is a case where you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Last year's sugar bowl was their one lone bright spots in all the bad matchups they've had in a while.
And no, I don't think the Sugar Bowl draws Tulane-ish attendance. But I think a lot more people that are local attend those shittier-type matchups than you think.
What facts that you keep touting justify the claim (I don't believe it) that the money in this statement is true:
Sugar + BCSNCG > 1/4 or 2/3 + BCSNCG
Where do you get those facts??? I don't believe you that you say that you have them. Link? Or are you just saying that?
1/4 or 2/3 + BCSNCG would carry a ton more revenue than Sugar + BCSNCG
