If they go to playoff system their power is diminished greatly because they no longer decide who goes and who does not. They will not give up this power unless congress intercedes, or a class action lawsuit forces their hand. Money = power, and who doesn't like power? I thought so.....
If you know anything about marketing, you build relationships with your customer, IE host cities and BCS. Ever heard the phrase line their pockets? It goes much further than the commonly used phrase "Its all about the money". Its more like "Its all about who the money goes too".

Revenue. Each conference whose team qualifies automatically for the BCS receives approximately $18 million in net revenue. A second team qualifying brings an additional $4.5 million to its conference. Notre Dame receives approximately $1.3 million. Army and Navy also receive $100,000 each, and the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision conferences share approximately $2 million. Economic impact. The total economic impact in the host cities from the five BCS games in January 2009, was estimated at more than $1.2 billion.

Yeah, and one of those host cities is New Orleans... that's a lot of revenue and tourism for Louisiana
Can't figure out why some LSU fans don't appreciate/understand that

Reason #2: A playoff tilts the money in favor of the networks, which is why they're pushing so hard for a playoff.
The media complains all the time that schools make too much money over these football games. They seem to forget that first Harvard-Yale football game was organized as a fundraiser for the universities. That's why college sports exist. To help schools raise money.
Also don't forget that IT WAS THE MEDIA that wanted this BCS system. They turned on it in 2003 when their little darling USC didn't make the championship game. They pulled their poll from consideration and thus locked themselves out of influencing the BCS rankings directly. They have been whining about this system ever since they didn't get their way in '03. It's arrogance and ego on their part and they're never happy with anything. If we have a playoff system, the media will bitch about that when another one of their little darlings doesn't get in.

IDGAF
This thing was fixed for bama 2 weeks ago.
Games need to be settled on the field. Not by some biased voter. Or some computer computation thats obviously manipulated
Playofs or GTFO

I am happy about the revenue Louisiana gets, however do you not see the problems with this setup?

I say remove the NON cons and have top 8 playoff system. Do you not realize how awesome that would have been this year? Some great matchups, and we could have settled this Big 10, pac 12, offense is so good bullshite.

wait until our One Party Marxist Congress gets finished with the BCS.
All teams will have a right to a playoff spot and equal money distribution.

This is what I see when I look at college football:
It's only a game. Someone will make money from it. I want New Orleans and Louisiana to make as much money as possible from it. The current bowl system allows that. A playoff system prevents that.

Besides, all of the complaints this year have been ridiculous. The BCS worked this year -- it clearly put the two best teams in the championship game. No one disagrees with that.
The media wants to see it turn into March Madness. That's great for TV ratings, but have you ever seen the seats in the arenas during the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament? Fans can't travel to 3 rounds of a team's run to a championship.

It is all about the money. And controvery drives the ratings which further makes more money. The talking heads love to discuss changing the system only after the fact when the end of the year is near just so they can boost more controversy and increase ratings...its all about the fricking money and it is sad we cant do better than this

I wonder what the impact of the Super Bowl alone is?

It's not going anywhere because it's extremely controversial. Controversy creates discussion and the bcs is being talked about and followed more than ever which they are probably loving. This is being discussed way more than basketball and baseball which both have a playoff type system. I know football has way more followers but you get my point, the bcs is glad that the build up to see who gets in is so closely watched because it makes the championship game that much bigger

As far as talking heads are concerned, I do not believe I have seen ONE say "this bcs thing, its great for college football".
It is a monopoly that drives out any sort of competition. I thought we outlawed that kinda thing in say the 1930's?
