I was listening to Sirius 91 and the host was talking about how the BCS most likely will take baby steps to a playoff and potentially would adopt a +1 model with conference championship as a prerequisite for championship game participation.
So that means Bama wouldn't be in it this year if that scenario were in existence. GOOD!!
frick BAMA!!!

I will reiterate my previous point. I think that there are going to be years where a "+1" is superfluous. Did Texas need to beat another team in 2005?
This year will be another one -- does LSU really need to win 2 more games to be considered the champ?
That's why I think there should be conditions set up that trigger a play-in game that occurs in December -- it is triggered when the #3 team is within a certain number of pts from the #2 team in the BCS. Then, and only then, will there be a gripe from the #3 team, that they are so close to #2 yet won't get a shot. Other than that, if #1 and #2 are far enough in advance of #3, there is no play-in game.
Somehow, pro stadiums can be ready for a game on a week's notice -- just reserve a neutral site for the play-in game that gets set a week in advance.

It was a great season, not just a good one. Any time you win 11 games or more in a season that is a great season.

I don't think you can require a conference title with the increase of teams we are seeing in the conferences.
Ifs not there now, why put in when you are making these super conferences?

A 6-team playoff would discourage teams from playing tougher non-conference regular-season schedules. Could you imagine if there was a 6-team playoff the last couple of years? Teams like Boise St. and Houston and TCU could have gotten in every year for literally playing no one, while a 1-loss team in the SEC has to sit and watch. Sounds pretty unfair to me. However, a 6-team playoff would push the inevitable late-season debate away from the top 3 teams and push it back to the 5-8 teams.

I'm still curious though what is the one game being added?

And there it is.
Maybe this explanation will help to clear things up. Right now, teams play 12 regular season games, maybe a conference championship, and maybe a bowl game OR the NCG. The maximum number of games is 14. In the plus one scenario, either the seeded or non-seeded version, the NCG doesn't take the place of a bowl game like it does now. The NCG game is played AFTER teams play their bowl games, therefore the maximum number of games a team can play is 15 instead of 14, and thus the term "+1".
I'm not saying that a sportscaster never said anything about #2 playing #3 for the chance to play #1, but the two +1 scenarios I have heard about have been previously discussed:
1. Non-seeded - 8 teams play in the BCS bowl games. Teams are ranked after the bowl games and subsequently #1 plays #2 for the BCSNC after all the bowl games are played.
2. Seeded - the bowl games are played. Two of the BCS bowl games match #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3. The winners of these two games play for the BCSNC after all the bowl games are played.
