No, because the playoff system is merely best at hiding its failures.
There is just as much whining when it does reveal them though.
Why does the Superbowl carry more weight than the final regular season game about a month prior? What magical difference crowns the SuperBowl as the definitive method of crowning a champion compared to that game?
Never mind the fact that playoffs are based on a huge logical fallancy....
I guess the NFL and the other major sports have it all wrong with a playoff and college football is the only one to have it right huh?

The NFL has a playoff. Even High School football has a playoff. All other college sports have some type of playoff system in place, and it has been so for many years.
I believe that college football is the only sport in the country to not have a playoff system. That, in my eyes, is wrong. We should also have a playoff system. It would be fairly simple to design and put into place. The only question is why will those in power not let it be so?

You know what? Of the above teams, 99.999999% of non-Gumps would agree that Alabama is the worst of the 5 teams above, and yet, at this moment, if the 2 BCS teams were announced, they would be in the National Championship game.
good thing we have a playoff game next weekend between teams A and B
TEB, If the regular season was a playoff then any undefeated team should be in. Or Aub in 2004 wouldn't have gotten left out.

Whether you agree that we are deserving of the #1 ranking which we now hold is also a matter of opinion. Each and everyone of you are entitled to your own. But before you allow your bias to interfere with an intelligent thought process, ask yourselves this:
What else would you have us do?
While you are a "very good" team, most people don't think you are a "great." Most people think Florida is one of the "great" teams this year, hence why you're the underdog in the SECCG.
The reason most people don't think Bama is elite, is that they really haven't beaten anyone else who's all that good, or looked really impressive against anyone who's that good. Most of the big wins are against mediocre teams, or teams who at the time looked good but now were exposed as being mediocre (Clemson) or just above average (UGAg)

its easily the fairest way
No, it isn't.
And I didn't realize we were shooting for "fairness" anyway.
I thought we wanted to crown the best team in the land.

Where did I say that CFB is the right system?
And what kind of argument is this? BUT THEY DO IT TOO SO IT MUST BE RIGHT!!!!
And FWIW, college baseball does it a lot better than anyone else right now (dunno if the pros also do it that way as well), so your little spiel of a traditional playoff is show everyone else does it is flat out wrong.

What I love about people with this stance is that they have the option to support what is probably the best way to crown a champion, and instead they just want to do what "everyone else does."
This style of system where you beat a single team once and advance to the next level while they go home is not a valid way of crowning a champion in football, no matter how many sports use it.

All college football teams are not equal and they never will be. College football is more popular is some parts of the country than others. *Note the gameday attendance of a conference or individual school.
Many teams are located in states where high school football isn't very popular. *Note the northeast, northwest, and southwest.
There is already a playoff system in place in college football - It's called the regular season. A regular season loss is devastating. The consequence of a loss insures each and every team gives maximum effort every time they take the field. If fills the stadiums to capacity each and every week for an exciting meaningful game.
Extended Playoffs have ruined pro baseball and totally destroyed regular season basketball. When I go to a college football game I'm going to see the very best those two teams have to offer because there is "no tomorrow."
The way to improve the BCS is to work within the system.
Example:
Rotate the top 4 ranked teams in two of the existing BCS Bowls and put teams 5 thru 8 in the other two BCS Bowls (rewards for great seasons) and then pit the winners of the the two games that featured the top 4 in a National Championship Game - maybe one of the existing Bowls in annual rotation. That's a varriation of the +1 playoff. Simple and effective, only adds one week to the season, and keeps the integrity of the regular season completely in tact.

IF's
1. If the NCAA BB tourney played best 3 of 4, Villanova nor NC State would win the NC.
2. If the NFL did the same, the NYG wouldnt have beaten the Patriots.
3. If we didnt have the BCS and were strictly still coaches and sports writers, a 2 LOSS LSU team dosent play for the NC last year. Probably dont play for it in 2003 either.
4. As far as Bama goes, well lets see when its all over how we did.
If anybody should be a proponent of the BCS its LSU. 03 computers helped you out when the voters were going USC. Last year, the BCS handed you an opp to play an OSU team that 3 other SEC teams would have hammered also to play over several one loss teams in Kansas, USC and OU who would have also hammered OSU.
I do understand though, this was just one more dig at Bama. You could care less about a system that has rewarded LSU handsomely twice, you just hid behind the BCS BS you threw out there. Just say I'm jealous of Bama and Saban and I want them to lose so bad I cant stand it because they have the best coach LSU ever had and dont hide behind some pu--y topic.

We were ranked a lowly #24 in the early pre-season polls. Whether you think each of our opponents were deserving of their particular rankings at the time is a matter of opinion. But our own opinions don't matter, nor do they change those rankings. Bama has met each and every opponent at the time and place scheduled. We have now completed our entire regular season schedule and have defeated every team we have met.
Funny thing about this is you replace Bama in this arguement with Boise St or Utah and they pretty much have the exact same argument......at this point that is it will all be a moot point after the SEC champ game one way or the other.

Alabama will defeat a one loss team and finish 14-0 as NC and the BCS can claim they got it right again.

I've said this before and I'll say it again...a playoff doesn't necessary produce the "best" team.
Sometimes, there simply isn't a "best" team.
I like the fact that you bring up the NFL system. Let's talk about that. Last year, a team that didn't lose a game all season got beat in the final minutes of the Super Bowl by a team that it had beat earlier in the year.
So...were the Giants clearly the best team in the NFL last year?
I'm not convinced. All that I know is that the Patriots made the mistake of beating the Giants on the wrong day. If they had simply beat them on Super Bowl Sunday instead of beating them during the end of the regular season, then their reputation as the NFL's "best" would be intact.
Were they a victim of the playoff system? I don't know. All that I know is that in head-to-head competition, the two teams split. The Patriots simply made the mistake of beating the Giants on the wrong day, and for that, they are not called the league's "best" for last year.

So no LSU fan can say that they don't think Bama is great otherwise we are jealous? Get your head out of your arse because Florida will be kicking next weekend.
Go to any other message board in the USA (not Bama related) and see what they think of Bama.
