Baton Rouge Advice

Hey everyone, I am a Tennessee fan that is making the trip down to Baton Rouge this year with a buddy. We are going to be in town all day Friday and Saturday then flying back Sunday.
I’ve been to plenty of games in Knoxville of course. I’ve been to Athens and Auburn as well but I have friends that are fans of those teams so I had tour guides.
Coming down to Baton Rouge I have no idea what to expect so I wanted to post here to see if you guys could offer some food suggestions, tailgate spots (open invites to stop by a tailgate if anyone is kind enough) what to do on Saturday before kickoff or anything else. Basically, what do I need to know and how do I make the most of my experience?
Death Valley has been on my bucket list and with it coming up on Tennessee’s schedule this year and uncertainty around SEC scheduling I couldn’t pass it up. I am super excited about this trip.
Thanks in advance!

Hit up the chimes at some point for beers and food. What part of town you staying in?
Campus should be hopping pretty good for the game unless LSU craps the bed early this season

I just dropped my son off there last weekend as an incoming freshman. If you bring him home for the game, we will get you drunk but make sure you make your flight home.

We are staying at an Embassy on constitution Avenue. Looks to be about a ten minute drive to the stadium. I planned to Uber over closer to campus the morning of the game.
And yes, I hope you guys start hot. The schedule sets up well going into this one. We should at least have only one loss or be undefeated. I stopped expecting a win against Florida regardless the circumstances so who knows what we’ll be doing the week before in that one.

Win or lose, go to walkons after the game.
Any tailgate you see is an open invite as long as you are respectful and nice. It sounds cliche but people put a ton of work and effort into their tailgates with the sole purpose to entertain guests, especially first timers. If you say it’s your first time to tiger stadium you will get the red carpet.
Honestly your pregame should entail stopping at a grocery store, buying a cheap rolling ice chest, filling it up with alcohol and just walking around the stadium. Pop into random tailgates and shoot the shite. You’ll get a better experience doing this then trying to get into one of the “destination” restaurants. And I can almost guarantee the tailgate food will be better than any restaurant.
Drink heavily before the game and you’ll have a good time. Again, go to walkons after the game to keep the party going and I hope you don’t have an early flight out on Sunday

I love these responses to these threads. It’s so true. There really is no place like LSU for a college football game day.
Bringing some Big XII buddies down for the Bama game.

Awesome you’re coming into town. On Saturday, may consider:
- Grabbing breakfast at Louie’s on campus. If you’re on campus that early
- Swing by The Chimes at the Northgate for drinks and appetizers. Grab some drinks to go and begin walking on to campus.
- Hit up tailgates along Dalrymple. Just walk up to anyone and see if they’d be game to join.
- Victory Hill festivities - with the team, band, and beyond.
- LSU sets up a band and other cool stuff near the Pete Maravich Assembly Center before the game. The Assembly Center will also open up for restrooms etc.
- Post game parties around the Northgate/Chimes/Varsity are easy to go to. You can walk back on a similar route from the Stadium to that area. Plenty of people will still be tailgating after the game.
Friday:
- You may consider playing golf at a local course to take up some time. City Park BR. Webb.
- Tiger Cage and exploring campus is cool on Friday to start seeing tailgates get setup.
- Downtown area is cool to check out. Nothing crazy special. But nice restaurants, bars, etc.
- Ruth’s Chris near your hotel.
- Other adult establishment near your hotel.
- Perkins Road overpass area would be cool. Plenty of bars etc. Ivar’s. Duvics. The Merchant. Etc.

Grabbing breakfast at Louie’s on campus
Don’t do this. Long lines, foods not that good, shitty old restaurant in the bad part of campus.
quote:
The Chimes
Also will be hard to get into and end up being a waste of time.

Victory Hill
It’s okay but you’ll need to get a good spot where you can see in order to make it worth your while.

Post game party near Northgate
Avoid this area after the game. Riddled with crime and will be a cluster trying to get in and out.
Friday
- if you play golf, don’t go to Webb or City park. Those are shite hole golf courses.
- downtown Friday night will be…sketchy and most likely lead to an unnecessary hangover.
- Ruth’s Chris is probably one of the worst Ruth Chris with regards to the environment. It’s an old low ceiling building that will most likely leave you feeling like you overpaid and wasted your Friday night.

Where are your suggestions Tyga? Or just feel like throwing shade?

Suggestions for a Friday night before a gameday?
Posted on 8/24/22 at 6:52 pm to 225Tyga
Friday and Saturday is what he’s looking for help with.
Most of what you commented on is off base to me. So I’m just curious where your 5star suggestions are.

You basically told the guy
On Friday
- play golf at Webb or City Park
- go to Ruth’s Chris
- go downtown after
Next morning
- go to Louie’s
- go to Chimes
- go to Victory Hill
Literally anything would be better.

I see y’all’s boards are similar to ours in the fact nobody agrees ??

No, we all hardly ever agree.
Can you give more insight on your trip? Rough age range, friends or family trip? Likes dislikes? Level of drinking?

Honestly, if I had a perfect day, this is what I would really like to do. Eat breakfast or lunch at a spot depending on the kickoff time then just visiting a bunch of tailgates around the stadium. I’d love that.
I’m not in the obnoxious part of our fanbase so I should be okay to be around ??

I’m just rattling off stuff. You’re missing all the stuff in between. Especially with Louie’s. Chimes and Victory Hill. It’s everything in between that makes that ‘route’ awesome. Strolling essentially across the prettiest stretch of campus from Northgate to Clock Tower to amphitheater to Indian mounds to victory hill / stadium area.

I’m 29. My buddy is early 30’s. Just us two. I’m married. He’s not. I drink but try not to get too too crazy on gameday because I want to enjoy the game and also Tennessee football gets me in a different mental state as it is but I will be drinking pregame. My buddy doesn’t drink anymore but is fine dropping in bars, hanging out at tailgates, etc.
Honestly, I just want the college football experience of LSU. I’ve heard nothing but great things about gameday there.
