Honestly, for the first time in my life (and I'm over 50) that the basketball season has started and I'm so totally disengaged.

And we've had worse teams talent-wise, several of them, than this years bunch.

But last year so thoroughly and completely disappointed and disgusted me that I'm having a hard time coming around. And if an LSU hoops junkie like me can't come around interest will be sparse, even moreso than usual for this bunch.

Which is unfair for Blakeney who was probably the only kid on the team who busted his arse all year last year.

I wish them well, truly and hope CJJ proves me wrong...but I think he's already proved me right...this job is over his head and he IMHO has no chance to get it on track.

I can't argue with any of this. I am in my mid 40's and feel similarly. I would say give them a chance and watch them develop, but the crappy schedule really won't tell us a lot. This team looked pretty good against an NAIA team and they will look good against the likes of Wofford, North Florida, and the other stiffs that are on the schedule. There are some good pieces to the puzzle here and this team has a chance to finish in the top half of the SEC IF Jones can put them together correctly. The way the schedule is set up, they must win all of the non-conference games on the mainland and at least get 1 win in the Bahamas to have a chance to sniff post-season.

I think Duop Reath is a real find......but again, how will he do against better competition?

It says he will resume physical activity in December.....I wouldn't be surprised if it is January before we see him in a game.

When Jenkins returns he will be the starter at point guard if he is 100% healthy.

PG Jenkins
Mays

SG Sampson
Patterson

SG Blakeney
white kid from Austraila

PF Victor
Epps

Center Reath
Big E.

Those are the best case scenarios.

Jenkins is not a PG

Mays is by far the best true PG we have on this team

Jenkins isnt going to play PG. He will be at wing. Mays and patterson will be primary ball handlers. But as seen before with Johnny Jones offense, the 3 guard posistions are interchangable

And also, not that it matters too much what posistion they are labeled, but Reath is Center and Victor is PF. As far as defensive matchups this is what we will run.

Even though Jenkins is not a true point guard he will share the brunt of the duties. Mays is getting a shot to be the starter but he's just not there physically. He won't score from the position. Jenkins will be the best on guard ball defender on the team. he can rebound, he can run the floor, and he's relentless. Don't be surprised when Jenkins is healthy to see him get the most minutes from the PG position. Randy Livingston has said that Jenkins would have started on last year's team.

I hope so. His numbers in the second game (not the first because we played midgets)stood out to me and surprised me. I was expecting a shot-blocker with little or no other skills. That may end up being more the truth than the previous game, but it would be nice to have a true inside presence to help our guards because we do have some talent in the back court.
