He gave the signal as soon as the SS stopped it. He couldn't give it prior.
He could have been more vocal, but dammit, the runner must look for the coach. And the signal was up.

Hard to tell but below that I10 logo is a pretty good storm popping up south of Lafayette and west of Opelousas heading east.
