Every time I feel like I've had it with this team, they win inexplicably. Every time I start to feel good about this team and optimistic about where this season might be going, they lose while looking like complete dogshit. There is no consistency with this squad, which is absolutely maddening. At the same time, we see the same mistakes over and over and over again which we have seen from Paul's teams over the last 10 years. No, the sky is not falling, but there are legitimate reasons for concern and real criticisms to be had.

let him finish the season. Win the SEC Tournament and get to Omaha.
Win a Natty and live to fight another season. If not, change is coming and Woodwards will make his first landmark hire as LSU AD.

This is one of my favorite LSU fan memes. I dont understand why or how people try to read big sweeping declarations into a 5-second clip of Mainieri's face in the dugout. I'm guessing it's mostly people that are too dumb to come up with actual tangible reasons for a team's struggles so they just go with "LOOK AT MAINIERI'S DUMB FACE" or something to that effect.
They want him to be chugging Red Bulls and tearing off his shirt in the dugout every half inning.

Injuries are never an excuse but good Lord, when you have that many quality arms & bats removed from the lineup, it's bound to lead to losses. Some guys take a full season or two to get in the college swing (see Kramer, for example). We don't write them off for one bad season.
People who have watched LSU baseball for more than a season or two know this.

The amount of people on here that know nothing about baseball amazes me

Apparently not.
Being a baseball fan requires a certain level of levelheadedness. No drama queens allowed.

I've been attending games consistently for 25 years. I know how injuries can impact a game. However, there are some serious things that I see repeatedly with Paul's teams.
1. (outside of the Cannizaro years) No development of hitters. Players are not taught a consistent batting technique. They tend to regress, rather than improve over time while on LSU's roster, and most confess to having learned far more about batting in the summer wooden bat leagues than they do at LSU.
2. Recruiting for ratings rather than positional need and depth. Paul and his staff consistently bring in highly rated talent while missing on big stars due to the MLB, which is to be expected. However, they seem to not take positional needs into account nearly as much as they should. Every team seems to have glaring deficiencies at one or two positions. There is no reason to have to start a DH who bats less than .200. There is no reason for a program of this size to have glaring holes at catcher and first base. There is no reason to be starting a catcher who can't get the ball out of his glove fast enough to throw down to second base. There is no reason to have a batting strategy based around left/right-handed pitchers while recruiting zero left-handed pitchers. While big recruiting ratings look good, failing to address key positional shortages makes those ratings sort of a paper tiger.
3. Inconsistent treatment of pitchers. Paul has a really bad habit of leaving in pitchers when they're getting shelled and pulling pitchers when they're hot. Thursday night, the starter gets shelled for 6 runs in the 2nd inning before anyone is even warming up. You can't tell me this is done for depth reasons because due to that starter only being out there for such a short time, you can reuse him later in the weekend. In other games, you have a hot pitcher who is not giving up hits or walking batters, and they're pulled in the 6th inning to be replaced by a middle reliever who can't find the plate. I know it is not easy to balance pitch counts and what not, but Paul seems to, compared to other programs, consistently leave in pitchers who are getting shelled far longer than do other teams, often to the point that it digs a massive hole that the team cannot possibly expect to crawl out of.
4. Why can't this team bunt and steal? It seems like every team in the country is better at us at this?
5. Why does nearly every batter take the first pitch for a strike seemingly 80% of the time?
6. Why do our batters seem to his a disproportionate number of popups rather than chipping for base hits?

I will be starting a thread next year for all of you toolbags to check in at. If you call for him to have a hot seat, get fired, etc. I will then ask you to state a length of time.
If at the end of the season they make Omaha you will be banned for said length.
If they don’t make the supers, I will be banned for said length of time.
If the make the supers and get knocked out it’s a push.
You dipshits show up every year and run your mouths. There’s a reason he coaches one of the best college baseball teams in the country and you sit on here and don’t get paid to have an opinion.

Stopped reading at this, tbh
I’ll add, that assuming you mean Cannizaro, our hitting statistics must have been significantly better when he was on the staff and surely you can share with us the numbers backing up this claim.
