I don’t remember what the roster limit changes were. What number were they at in fall and what do they have to get down to?

I don’t know the answer to this, but surely they aren’t making changes to the roster 5 weeks before the first game

Currently 38 players

The limit is "34" but they have 40 because they can carry more because they can grandfather guys in that would have had to be cut but were already on the team. Or something like that.

They carried 39 in the fall. Jay wanted 42, the administration at the time said he could carry 40.

They are at 38 right now with onte of the pitchers who transferred in leaving the team to most likely medically retire from baseball.

The NCAA's soft limit right now is 34. The anticipation is that it will become a hard limit at some point, but it's not a hard limit currently because the NCAA is allowing what they call Designated Student Athletes.

DSAs are guys that were or would have been cut from the team to comply with the 34 man limit and is handled on a good faith basis with the NCAA. So each school was allowed to decide how far above the 34 they were comfortable with (as referenced at the beginning of my post).

There were rumors that a Big 12 school DSA'd every guy on their roster so that they could carry like 56 players. LSU (and other SEC peers) were more conservative.

DSAs had to be on last year's roster (recruited to the school before April of 2025) and the names had to be turned into the NCAA in July. So there is a finite amount of time the DSA thing can be used unless they kick the can down the road. The roster limit rules have changed so many times in the last several years that it's tough to anticipate that anything we know now will be the same next year.

In my reading of the NCAA handbook for 2025-2026, I can't find anything that says there is a hard cap on the roster for 2026. From what I can tell every player on the roster is eligible to participate if they are categorized correctly (DSA where applicable). My interpretation could be wrong though.

I think individual game tickets go on sale later this month if my recollection is correct. My season tickets were renewed beginning of October.

everything with regards to the DSA is accurate and that number will eventually get to the 34 over time

keep in mind that they also no longer have the 11.7 rule for allocating scholarships

all 34 will be on scholarship

In a addition, if a DSA transfers schools, that designation follows them to the new school.
