Stop whining every year. The semifinals has been single elimination for a while. We benefit and don't benefit from it but it's not new.

eta: I think Lil Sweet popped a nut on his HR. I think he hit it as hard as he could and cleared the fence by like 3 feet.

The semifinals are single elimination because the teams coming out of the losing bracket have most of their pitchers spent. Therefore, the teams in the winning bracket have their advantage.
