Mostly depends on how he feels after warming up. Some pitchers don't do well after a long delay.
I never liked resuming after pitching a few innings - never knew what to expect. If a pitcher felt great throwing his fastball but was having trouble with his curve or changeup, timeoff doesn't guarantee you'll retain what's good and correct what bad.
Pitching in minors no different than in college.
