Gave up 2 runs through 5 against the top offensive team in the SEC. Seems fine to me, he's just not getting the run support that he had last year. And I don't think he trusts his infield so instead of pitching to contact he's trying to strike every batter out. (May be wrong but it feels like he doesn't trust his defense to make plays behind him.)
Fair enough. Pitching does look worse when you can't score runs.

Silver lining is we shouldn't see Bugg the rest of the weekend...
Downside... wtf is wrong with him? I remember doing the preseason thread before the 2014 season and seeing this 6'5 guy who threw in the mid to upper 80s. I knew he would get time on the mound that year and could even been look at as a starter down the line if he could develop second pitches.
But he's too over the top. The FB doesn't move. He never developed a true curve and Dunn worked with him on the split finger. It was affective last year. But the thing about a guy who throws a split finger is what you do after you've been scouted and your only two pitches are a 86 mph fb and a split. Batters get patient because throwing the split for a strike is one of the toughest things to do as a pitcher. Now you just site FB and watch it come in straight.

But I tend to be a sunshine pumper, so I'll keep pumping away even though having faith is as hard as it is. I think Poche is fine and Lange will still be 1st or 2nd team All-SEC. Also that the offense will come around to at least finish in the middle of the pack. We will still end up hosting a regional and making the supers.
There are a lot of glaring weaknesses on this team and our strengths aren't looking that strong. Sure we still have speed but being predictable ruins that. You can always count on us running our way out of innings and our defense is the worst I've seen in the CPM era. I think Deichmann needs to sit asap.

He has one. It's just not good. So Dunn taught him the split because it works best with over-the-top guys.

CPM consistently has winning seasons. But watching his pitching management is like watching a Johnny Jones basketball offense. Can't figure either one of 'em out.

I don't know if it is just me but it seems like when LSU pitchers go up 0-2 that they try and get them to chase the next two every time. I understand to do it more times than not but sometimes you got to challenge the hitters especially at the bottom of the lineup in those counts. The book is out and they are laying off of them in those counts and then it is 2-2 or 3-2 and they know you have to throw a strike and you are working up your pitchers pitch count.
