I believe that 4 hits and 2 runs tonight is a pretty significant concern too.
That's a whole different story. Without Ranaudo this team has below average SEC pitching. I was hoping the offense could carry the team for a while but it looks just as bad as the pitching. I know it's early and I know we have excelled in the second half of the season under Manieri. If I had to guess, I would think the offense would start to click eventually. But not having a #2 starter right now really concerns me. I would love to not focus on Bourgeois' JUCO numbers but that concerns me. If I had to guess then I think the best candidate to emerge as our #2 is Matulis and maybe even Mormann. From a pure stuff standpoint, they are both our best options behind Ranaudo.

I've said it in a few threads talking about Ranaudo, but LSU has to have everyone step up to fill the void, not just the pitchers. The hitters have to score some runs. If LSU has more than just a 2 run HR, then Matty Ott would have probably been in with just 4 outs to go. But trailing by 2 runs there, you can't bring in your closer. Ross did a decent job tonight. If he's not having to pitch on Friday night, then 4 runs in 6 innings isn't bad. Rittner pitched a good 7th.
That's what happens when you lose your ace of the staff. The Tigers just need to keep plugging away and not lose too much ground (i.e. don't get swept) so that when Ranaudo makes it back they can make a charge up the standings.

I disagree. We get another shot and if you've followed LSU baseball you know that's all it takes.
i have followed lsu baseball, but we haven't done anything since the guadet homer and we have the 567 hitters up in the ninth

We'll see, buddy. Let's hope for the best.
1-1 to the batter
High, 2-1
Strike, 2-2
High, 3-2
Flies out to Landry. Reed does a fine job, there!

Grand Slam is my favorite play of the season.

Not a bad spot to start a rally. If you have to score 4 runs, might as well have the bottom of the lineup batting, so that if you do get something going, you're now at the top of the lineup to drive in the runs.
Of course, if you only need one or two, you'd rather the top of your lineup.

Giving up 6 runs isn't just stellar, but it's not that bad either. Don't get me wrong, I'm a little concerned about our pitching. But not nearly as much as I am our bats. If we're swinging good bats, then 6 runs will be a good outing by the pitching staff.
