I find it hard to believe that 500k in decorating expenses flipped Terri's switch. As if the 4 or 5 million a year wasn't enough. I think giving Saban control was what made Nick tell his family to pack up. Sure they wanted to stay in BR, but Nick needed to see that the world was round.

Sabans Brain has Two primary sources of Motivation:

1) Ego/Power
2) Money

He will go wherever he can get the MOST of #1 and #2 !!

Hey Scoop, thanks for the post. It's a damn shame that people are so bitter they can't comprehend the reality of the situation. They are also too self-serving to be able to put themselves in his shoes. Given the situation, most people would have done the same. As an LSU fan, had I been in his shoes, I wouldn't have, but he and his family didn't grow up in LA...so people around here just can't fathom his situation because it would be such a no-brainer for them. But his situation is not nearly the same as "we" would see it.

I harbor no hard feelings for a man that put this program back on the map, and I just can't understand why people don't feel the same. He didn't leave LSU for Bama, and he didn't chose Bama over returning to LSU.

The opinions are not based on one move. They are based on his entire career, constant flirtations and lies. Let him actually start winning at Bama and watch the fireworks. The Gumps will be in total meltdown mode at the realization that he actually won't retire at Alabama.

Whatever. It's not, nor has it ever been, about his entire career, it's been about two moves: leaving LSU and then ending up at Bama. It's as simple as that.

Saban didn't put LSU back on the map. The TAF put LSU back on the map. It was the TAF who created the E. Side upper deck with sky boxes, etc. That provided LSU with the money to attract a good coach like Saban who could come LSU and win, and he did. Now that the program and facilities have been built to the level they are, LSU should never have any trouble attracting a first-class coach. It's hard to believe that Saban would have done any better than Miles has done if he had stayed at LSU. And unlike Saban, Miles is smart enough to know when he has it made. "Have a nice day."

Saban has said repeatedly that he took the Miami job because of the challenge he had always wanted, and he stated many times that it had nothing to do with money. Of course, he isn't going to say it was about money because it would make him look like a man who cares only about money/ego/power and has no loyalty or affection for any program. Gosh, just imagine Nick being seen as that kinda guy.

Don't give me this BS. You want to talk about who was responsible, let me throw out Mark Emmert. But you still have to do the job, and Saban did the job and put us back on the map. I'm not saying it would have never happened, but he's the one that did it and he gets credit for it. He instilled a new mindset and that mindset remains. So have a great day....a much greater one than 10 years ago because of Saban.

I don't think he really wanted to go the pros. But, if he was going to go, he had to have a certain amount of control over personnel, and WH gave it to him. WH gave to him what the Bears(although I heard he wanted that job), Colts, and Giants wouldn't give him.

I don't think Saban would have gone to Miami had he not gotten the control they gave him. If all he wanted was to be an NFL coach, he would have gone to the NFL when he was at MSU.

It's not as simple as that!

He left to go to Miami, don't like the way he handled it but, he went to follow his dream. NFL sucked and wanted back in college and went to Bama. Not a big deal, we didn't need him and probably didn't want to put up with the soap opera again. However, after he got to Bama there was no need for him to try to take credit for Les' season or put down the people at the school that gave him the chance to be a big time coach. If he had gone to Bama and kept his mouth shut, I would have no problem with Saban.

Which is fine and dandy...and I'd agree with it. It's why, as much as it stung, wen he left for Miami most LSU fans wished him well because we were told of his love for LSU and his desire to fulfill his dream of coaching in the NFL.

He didn;t become a true pariah in the eys of the vast majority of LSU fans until he took a job in the SEC. And not just in the sEC...in the SECW! Part of his job description, basically, is now to see that LSU fails by virtue of BAMA suceeding. That's just the plain truth. So while he gets credit for aiding the rise of LSU to where it was when he left, he deserves a swift kick in his tiny sack for SEEKING OUT a job that would put him directly in opposition with what he's been running around telling everyone he loves.

Fact is...he's a mercenary. He tooks jobs that gave him higher profile opportunities laced with bigger paychecks and more fame. Miami was the pinnacle of that...and when he failed (and he did) he took the highest paying gig available and didn;t give a flying frick about LSU, the fans he claimed to care about, or the program he built.

And as such, I don't hold him in the great regard you do. When he left for Miami, I wished him luck. When he took the job at BAMA, he was no better than Tommy Tuberville. For taking (and let's be honest here...seeking out) a job in the SECW I wish nothing but failure on him for the rest of his professional career.

This BS about Saban liking Baton Rouge and LSU

That part isn't B.S. Saban did come to regret leaving LSU (still does), and Teri never wanted to leave.
