You recall wrong. Butch Jones was seen on the sideline (not against the rules) and was seen saying something to a player for a few seconds

Yep, really like him. Wish LSU would have done this. Seems it would have helped recruiting in Tx

Analyst can’t recruit. They can’t coach either
So you think Bama is hiring all these ex-coaches as analyst and they are not doing any coaching? It's one thing for compliance to monitor travel and expenses of a program to see who's recruiting but it's almost impossible to know who's on the sidelines and in the practice rooms and in the film rooms coaching on a day-to-day basis. As it has been pointed out, these guys have been seen coaching during live games and you don't think they're coaching behind the scenes. Seems to me this rule needs to be reviewed as Bama has crossed the line once again.

Y'all keep saying they can't recruit but I don't believe that is true. Mawae said on air after being elected to Hall of Fame that he was gonna pull out the gold jacket when recruiting. He's an analyst at Arizona State.

Now, it's true they can't directly coach, but I have my doubts he would say that on air if they weren't allowed to recruit.

Analysts aren't supposed to be on the actual field during practice, nor are they allowed to coach the players. However, most analysts will do the opposite and only stay off the field if a compliance officer is visiting practice.

He’s an intern not an analyst.

I don’t know the distinction but I’m pretty sure he’s not paid. By Bama

Saban fired his arse in 2007

If I recall, Applewhite was getting death threats in the. Middle of the night from Bama fans. For him to go back there, other opportunities must have been slim.

I think this says something about where Buma stands right now. Coaches were lining up to go there at one point. Now they are having to get guys with problems like Sark (drunk) and Applewhite (fired because he lost control of his players). Hopefully this will work down to the players next. If they stop getting people based on reputation alone, they fall back among the rest of us. Not sure what will come next, Saban leaving or recruiting violations.

How so ?
Applewhite is a Baton Rouge guy but as a coach, he doesn’t have a lot on his resume that stands out. We need to stop thinking everything Saban does is a slap on us.
We still have Dave Aranda who was a great hire and the hiring of Joe Brady is very intriguing. He may very well turn out to be the offensive equivalent of Aranda...and he can coach AND recruit. To be working under Sean Peyton and with Drew Brees is invaluable experience.
We will be just fine going forward.

Good thing he is an analyst and not a coach.

Yes he’s paid and yes he’s an analyst. The intern Butch thing is a joke.

He makes $35k

And can’t coach players. Even though he’s on the sideline at all games.

NCAA needs to get a fricking handle on this shite

I wonder why LSU fans care about what Bama do so much
