Not this year

Not if they lose to LSU anyway

If they lose a fluke game like MSU and still win the SEC sure

But LSU is their one opportunity to shine against a top team. Fail that test and they're out. Period.

LSU could get in even losing to Bama

A lot of things would have to happen for this to take place

Our chances of getting in would be about 1% with a Bama loss

I think the biggest thing going for LSU is that everyone thinks this game is meaningless for Alabama. That they are in the playoff no matter what.

If they believe that too it could only help LSU.

LSU wins out and wins SEC with 1 loss. Clemson wins out and wins ACC undefeated. Michigan/OSU win out and win Big 10 championship. Notre Dame wins out and goes undefeated. Oklahoma or Texas wins out and wins the big 12 championship. A one loss Alabama that doesn't win the SEC goes above one of these teams?

Probably

And it should shock absolutely no one if Alabama got in ahead of a one loss LSU team that beat Bama head to head.... Bama looks better to the eyeball test.

On field results will be irrelevant. Especially if LSU wins a close game.

Alabama was in the playoffs before the season started regardless.

I disagree. The key is Notre Dame. An undefeated Notre Dame closes the door for 1-loss Bama if everyone else has one loss.

For us, though, the path is simple: win out.

A very dangerous message to install over the next two weeks.

What "message"? It's an absolute fact - they've skipped their conference championship TWICE (by virtue of a loss) and still gotten into the big game and won it, once against their own division/conference champion and another time against a conference champion from the other division.

So, pretending it can't happen is silly. Saying it shouldn't happen is fine, but frick it - since they've done it twice, it should be open for every other 1-loss SEC team, division/conference champ or not.

They CAN get in, but it is not gauranteed as some think. They would have the worst resume of all the other contenders. People using 2011 as an example need to look at the teams Bama beat that year and the rest of the teams in the top 5 of the BCS.

So can we, if we win out.

This is what infuriates me. If we beat them and they get in once again without winning their own conference division you have to overhaul the playoff. They will have played no where near the schedule other one loss teams at that point including us. It's a sham all of it.

youre kidding yourself if a one loss bama doesnt get in

and i bet anyone theyd win too

This is why I contend LSU will never win another NC as long as Saban is at Alabama. He's the best coach of all time with the best talent on the field every year. Quite literally, they are the best team in the country every year. Doesn't mean they can't lose, but they have not lost more than one regular season game a year since 2011. With a 4 team playoff, unless they lose 2 regular season games, they will almost certainly get in, either as SEC champ or like they did last year.

If LSU ends up beating Bama, the last 7 seasons show it will almost certainly be Bama's only loss. LSU will most likely have to beat a Saban Bama team twice in a season if they want to win the NC. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.

Y’all are missing simple facts. I get it, and I know I hate seeing bama get special treatment based on brand and “eye test”, but the only reason they got in last year was because there wasn’t another 1-loss P5 conference champ. If Wisconsin won their last game then they would’ve been in over bama. They got in over Ohio state because tOSU had 2 losses, one particularly awful loss to Iowa. If LSU wins out bama isn’t in. Too many one-loss champs (& undefeated ND) for them to get a bid.

Edit: and even if I end up wrong, the national reaction will bring us one step closer to expanded playoff

I guarantee Saban doesn’t think this game is meaningless, and he’ll have his team ready. Also, our offense has struggled against lesser talent and our defense hasn’t faced an offense like they’ll see November 3rd. And if he wasn’t going to be before, expect White to get double or triple manned in the second half with all the attention he’s getting.

I’m afraid LSU will have to play perfect ball to stay close in this one. Hope like hell I’m wrong though. Hate those gump bastards, always have.

Bama gets in over a 1 loss OSU team. Remember they got beat by 30 this weekend.

Bama gets in over a 1 loss Texas team, as they lost to Maryland.

The only way they may not get in is with an undefeated Notre Dame and Clemson and one loss LSU and Oklahoma. Still they may get in.

Bama won’t get in over a 1-loss Texas. The Maryland game was the first game of the season. They would have one more win than bama and a conference title. For the record, i think OU has a better shot at the big 12 title and playoff anyway.

Lol last year isn’t comparable.
Think about the other options from last year. There was no 1-loss power 5 champ available, and the only other option was UCF.
There are going to be plenty of 1-loss/undefeated teams this year to only allow 1 SEC team

What is the big deal. We get in with one loss, why not them?
