in our last 8 SEC road games since Marcel Reed entered the game in the third quarter back in 2024. This is also taking into account missed FGs and running out the clock in the red zone with the game already in hand (Ole Miss and Vanderbilt both in 2025).

He's also allowed end of half points in 5 of last 8 SEC road games during this losing streak. Two of the three games where they did not were the Marcel Reed game in 2024 when they gave up 4 straight TDs and scored on 5 straight possessions.

The other one was the 2024 Florida game where we cut the score to 20-16 with 5:18 in the 4th, and Baker proceeds to give up a 3-play 75 yard drive TD to ice the game.

Taking out kneel downs, we have allowed 25 TDs and 13 FGs in our 8-game losing streak.

Our total stops since Reed entered the third quarter at A&M in 2024:

25 punts (7 punts coming against OU in 2025)
2 fumbles (one was a fumble at the goal line by Ole Miss where they should've scored)
4 missed FGs
5 INTs (3 coming against OU in 2025)
3 turnover on downs

2 losses this year. Ole miss scores right at the end of the half and td before they kneel it out in 4th.

Kentucky scores td right at end of half. Then fg end of 4th. Then td and 2 pt end of overtime.

So he’s 0/5 in critical end of half situations in the only 2 close games we play.

Still shocked lane punted and bet on this guy to save it.

So you're saying it's easier to play defense at home when you have Tiger Stadium at full throat behind you? Interesting

I'm saying that our DC that we pay north of $3M per year to be competent on defense (regardless of location) isn't getting it done. Especially on the road.

This isn’t really the full story.

Just because those were the last drives doesn’t mean they were the only “critical” situations.

The stop after the Sam fumble when they got the ball at the 13 was fricking outstanding.

Yeah UK got the ball back because the offense couldn’t close it out, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t still a critical stand just because of what came after. Before that they had given up 3 points in the second half. You can’t just ignore that when evaluating the defense just because the last drive resulted in the loss.

And yeah the Chambliss TD to win it sucked but that was the only points of the entire second half.

Halftime adjustments have been outstanding.

The major complaint would the first half performance, and even that wasn’t terrible when you look at how it actually went down, although the busted run on the first play sucks no doubt.

First half of OM was bad though for sure. But given the situation we walked into for that game I won’t let those three drives define what has otherwise been a pretty good defense that gave us what should have been enough to win one if not both of those games.

I can't argue with the stop right after the fumble. That was incredible, as well as right after the INT that Leavitt threw. Have to give credit where credit is due.

But why do we have to wait until halftime to make adjustments? Why can't we adjust in-game when we know something isn't working? Especially against Ole Miss.

Has the soft zone coverage that Baker loves to implement ever worked?

But they literally let Kentucky march down the field at the end of the first half and the defense was on the bench most of the first half because the offense held the ball.

I don't think he's the worst DC ever, but his strategy certainly needs to be questioned at the bare minimum. Especially with all the data we have now in his third year.

That’s all fair man.

I am firmly in the prevent only prevents you from winning camp, but I do get the idea that you can’t give up a TD when they are playing for a FG so I kind of get the soft coverage too. Still have to bring some kind of pressure though. Cannot rush three.

I just think it always puts the defense in a shitty position when the offense has four plays to move the chains, which is why we needed to go for it on 4th and 1 and end the game right there
