I posted the Bears 1999-2000 stats in this thread too. The trend was the same.
At Oregon, Kelly has bettered Crowton's first year as OC AND the W-L and PPG have leveled out.
BYU's defenses were poor, usually ranking in the bottom half of FBS in Total and Scoring Defense. With a poor defense, you often see the numbers on offense to go up, not down. Plus, if offensive and defensive numbers go down AND the records get worse, then Crowton was a failure as head coach there. Maybe recruiting dropped off too. I don't see that as helping a defense of the coach's track record. If the trend wasn't able to be seen at Chicago, Oregon, and LSU, we could just say he is not head coach material, but still a good coordinator. Some coaches can't make the transition and are better as position coaches or coordinators.
The analysis is slanted to offense because that is what Crowton deals in. People can draw their own conclusions about what the stats mean, but the stats ain't changing. I think they at least show a trend that is irrefutable. What that trend implies is up for deabte. There are always many other factors that contibute to trends that are missed or not emphasized enough, but the variation in circumstances lends more credence to the proposition that there is some constant variable that is driving it.

The article linked in the first post is just a BYU fan being a BYU fan.
He left Oregon and they were 9th in total offense when he left.. anyone who would say that was a failure for an OC is not thinking straight.
I dont have BYUs defensive numbers.. but I would bet that the avg points scored against them went down significantly in all those years that you have quoted the points scored for them went down.. that may show a tend toward attempting to get a BYU team to play some defense, just a tiny bit (but the BYU fans could care less about that).. I just think it is bogus to show points scored for going down and not the points scored against (like that BYU vs UT game, holding the great Urban Meyer to 3 points and the BYU fan who wrote the article acts like they lost 70-0 that game)
Forget his NFL stats.. starting rb Curtis Enis, are you serious? that is turrrible.

Another one fixed on the 9th in Nation in Total Yardage, doesn't matter that the yards went down from second year, points went down etc. All that matters is 9th.

Sad really. Should I boom them with the D stats for Crowton's BYU tenure too?
BYU 2000 6-6 (W-L)
40th ranked 345.75 YPG Allowed
66th ranked 25.8 PPG Allowed
BYU Defensive Stats w/ CG as HC
BYU 2001 12-1 (W-L)
102th ranked 448.54 YPG Allowed
85th ranked 30.5 PPG Allowed
BYU 2002 5-7 (W-L)
69th ranked 384.67 YPG Allowed
72th ranked 27.8 PPG Allowed
BYU 2003 4-8 (W-L)
14th ranked 307.00 YPG Allowed
62nd ranked 25.8 PPG Allowed
BYU 2004 5-6 (W-L)
59th ranked 377.27 YPG Allowed
70th ranked 26.8 PPG Allowed
Edit: YPGA and PPGA shot way up in his first year, then continued to go down in the next two seasons. They went back up in year 4. PPGA in 2000 and 2003 were the same, but in 2004 the YPGA and PPGA were worse than when he took over.

then how about STFU!
or instead...read this entire thread. then you'll likely have more knowledge of LSU football than the entire current coaching staff.

define that. My Father and Mother met at LSU as students in the 50's. My whole family went there including me. Been a loyal fan all my life. A true fan doesn't dog the team every chance they get. Yeh, I see the needs for improvement, but a true fan believes those improvements will be made. time will tell..
