That’s a mighty bold claim.

How many legit nfl DBs are on the roster right now.

I guess it depends on how you define “legit.” We certainly don’t appear to have a 1st round, sure fire NFL starter. But I’ll say this - every year it seems like there are a couple of players the fan base hated, who go on to get drafted in the 2nd-3rd round and start as rookies in the NFL.

Recruiting as a whole looks pretty damn good right now. But there are holes/weak spots. To me the question is whether Kelly can manage the roster and assemble a complete team.

Why not limit coaches contracts to a max of 4 years. I believe it’s state law in Mississippi that contracts for state employees are maxed at four years. I believe that’s the reason Kiffen and Leach’s initial contracts were four years. After a period of two years or so a new 4 year contract can be signed.

You’d think the Board of Supervisors would be a safeguard to such tomfoolery that is a 10-year coaches contract but they are probably just rubber stampers.

Woodward has a chance to have handed out the two worst coaching contracts in sports history back to back. Quite a feat

Woodward did not hand out the awful Jimbo contract at A&M.

The problem with Jimbo at A&M was not the initial 10 year $75 million contract handed out by Woodward in December 2017.

It was the 10 year extension the A&M Board of Regents gave Jimbo prior to the 2021 season, long after Woodward was gone.

Agreed, he's twice as good. Kelly will never sniff Les' level of success.

Are you implying Kelly is a top 10 coach?

We're way too afraid to hire a young up and comer. Irving Meyers was once the coach of Bowling Green. Saban was Toledo. Bowden? Samford.

Sure, it might not work, but at least the buyout is less.

Urban Meyer went Bowling Green > Utah > Florida

Saban went Toledo > Browns Def Coord > Michigan State > LSU

Bowden went Howard/Samford > WVU > FSU

If you're fine with LSU being considered a mid-level program that doesn't pay big time money, sure we can take chances on those up and comers from low level programs with small salaries and low buyouts.

The problem with up and comers isn't their coaching ability. It's their ability to be able to manage and oversee huge multi-million dollar football programs. It's pretty much a necessity for those coaches to cut their teeth and learn the ropes at smaller programs before making the jump to a big time SEC program.

The problem with Kelly is he proved once out of Cinci to be a good not great coach.

He’s basically so highly regarded for the fact he improved and provided stability over some awful hirings at ND before him. In the end, outside of the one undeserved BCS title game appearance only earned by playing literally no team with a pulse, he did nothing great at ND.

The SEC, Big Ten and hell even Big XII prior to this year were worlds better competition than ND faced consistently.

He’s also not a cultural fit for an SEC type school. In the end, I do think the game has passed him by.

Stabilizing a storied program after years of irrelevance and getting to a natonal title game and a playoff isn't great?

Notre Dame was the only undefeated team and beat 4 ranked teams in 2012, including a blowout win at #8 Oklahoma (co Big 12 Champ).

It's fine to not be a fan of Kelly or not like how things have gone at LSU, thus far, but underplaying his career at Notre Dame is kind of dumb.

Boise St beat a top 5 OU team too. Does that mean they would do that playing a Big XI conference schedule?

Their 4 top 25 wins were against:

5 loss Michigan
6 loss Michigan St
2 loss Stanford
3 loss OU

So only 1 win versus a team with less than 3 losses. Only two with less than 5 losses.

Again, he is a good coach, but he is not great.

Yes. DeBore is that guy. Like it or not, and many older Bama fans don't like it. Saban days are in the past.

Agree. To put Kelly in the same sentence as Les is a disservice to Les. We never had anybody much less a QB averaging more than 15 yards a carry with Les as coach.

Without deep pockets Woodward is trash. And that's not even mentioning firing WW on the cusp of NIL. WW may not have won a title, but he would be pulling in serious talent at LSU rn.
Jay Johnson is great, but LSU baseball is a program that sells itself.
