Ohhhhh I see what you're saying. Only the "important" players should be able to do what they want. I guess when the team reports each year Miles sits in the corner with copies of the rule book and tells an assistant "okay that guy won't play this year, give him one. Oh there's the 4th string linebacker, he gets one. Wait, wait, that's our Heisman candidate this year, put that damn rule book down, he doesn't need it!"

if saban has iron clad power over the football program at alabama and there is no institutional control they are in big shite if something provable surfaces. sports teams are comprised of human beings and they are somewhat of a microcosm of the student body and society as a whole. some of them frick up and break rules. i really can't visualize saban allowing multiple rule breakers to stay on his team.

thought it was said that what he did wasn't illegal but was against team rules. Wouldnt that pretty much limit it to synthetic weed?
not at all. there are all kinds of team rules that do not involve the law.

I don't know what to think in this situation. Is it important to have moral standards? Yes. Do a high percentage of college kids smoke pot? Yes.I actually think alcohol is worse its just obviously accepted. I really don't even know for sure it was marijuana. I've never heard of anyone entering rehab for marijuana. I'm sure it happens but its not common. College football is a money making business and we just lost an important piece of our business. You don't see businesses drug testing their top salesman, brokers, engineers, etc. If the employee/player is not in a position where his smoking marijuana harms others I say let it slide. He can do an outpatient rehab program and still play football. You still have to deal with life even when you stop smoking pot so might as well keep it normal. Let em play. .

"Getting kicked off a team for a comparative (seemingly minor) offense"
Repeating an offense that you were already suspended for, then checking into rehab, isn't minor.

I am terribly bored man. I started writing what I thought would be a quick post and just rambled. I need football to start. Rainy weekend days are no good without good tv.

Man, what a sad thread.. Why won't Bama kick any of there best players off? Surely they are breaking the rules!

saban and his AD would have swept this shite under the rug, you think kirkpatrick never failed a drug test or 2?
I think the NCAA announces the time for the random drug test and they get the results, not the University.
Dre looked more like the kind to drink thunderbird to me.

Were any of the players you mention remotely given the news coverage of the players you name?
No they were not -- but they also were not Heisman Finalists a year before.
Lots of "stars" have been booted... LSU and Miles did the right thing here.

Well Arkansas kicked the coach of a top 10 team to the curb for boinking an intern and lying about it...Don't think any laws were broken though.

TM7 issue would never have seem the light of day if he was playing for Bama....

That's a given. Can't kick it under the crimson rug forever. Been caught with the hand in the cookie jar once. Just a matter of time.

Bama players don't even get called for holding. LSU does seem a bit self righteous when it comes to these drug tests. Really, why keep testing your star player for pot? Let it go. Esp before when the lsu testing went beyond NCAA rules. Just dumb.
Been thinking this for a while. Never said it because of all the tards that say

But this is LSU. Not bama, UGA, Arky, etc...
blah fricking blah. College kids smoke pot. Always have, always will.

That's because they had no way of hiding it. There were other witnesses and he was in a neck brace

SC has kicked a few off under LFK
SC does not drug test student athletes.
So had to be for a different infraction

MJN is exactly one of the reasons he was kicked off
