Are opposing defenses concerned about MB's running ability?

Of course not. So they key on the RBs and totally ignore MB as a running threat. This hampers our running game. Opposing defense's DE's and outside linebackers will always crash down to the RB when MB is under center making it more difficult for our O-line to open running lanes.

TJ nullifies because he will pull the ball at the mesh point and keep it. Even if he only falls for 2 or three yards it is still effective enough for the defensive outside LBs and DEs to respect the threat which in turn helps our O-line develop running lanes for our RBs.

He ran the ball 3 times and its harder to defend the entire field than it is to defend the read option. We ran it well because our oline dominated not because TJ was running the ball.

TJ and Myles Brennan run about the same speed wise. TJ is just so big when he falls forward it’s like an extra yard.

Johnson is easily the best running QB on the roster.

It's both. It's not because TJ was running the ball it's because TJ is capable of running the ball and defenses have to respect that one extra threat.

Remove that threat with MB is under center and it makes it more difficult to block and run.

I would love to see him get some real snaps.

Exactly. And you don't have to fear for TJ's life.

I think Brennan led his high school team in rushing. But he’s obviously far from a dynamic runner, if we go with Brennan we need to at least let him attempt to keep on the read option a few times just so it has to be respected.

Were you drunk? TJ lumbers with the ball under his arm. Kudos to the staff for game planning a scheme to his strengths. But if you think 8 carries for 24 yards is a “threat” then you were drunk.

But we didn’t run many zone read type plays. Go watch the first drive, we didn’t run one until we got near the red zone and were gashing USC up and down the field. Look at the Vandy game we ran it just like last night with Brennan at QB. I agree it can give the D something to think about in certain situations but overall Brennan threatens a D much more because he backs the safeties off much more and causes light boxes.

Explains why our run offense has been so powerful with him in the game. Lol

Brennan has -36 rushing yards on the year.

We’ve averaged 4.9 per carry for the season, 5.0 vs Vandy and averaged 5.2 last night. We had more rush yards because we called about 20 more run plays than any other game but the average wasn’t much different. What are you talking about?

We called plenty of of passes in the first half when Finley went 14 or 16 for 214 and 2 tubs, we went conservative in the 2nd half. And yes we did run more in the first half than normal, but we were throwing the ball.

Stop moving the goalpost plz but if you wanna talk about those 16 attempts how about the fact that only 1 traveled further than 10 yards in the air and a bunch were screens. That type of passing game can’t be effective over any period of time. It worked because USC came in worried about stopping the run not the QB.

Yeah because sacks count against rushing yardage.

People are going off the rails with the idea of a QB with running ability being required to open up the running game.

I don’t believe only one traveled more than 10 yards in the air, I can think of multiple off of the top of my head that did.
