Jimbo Fisher would have given him that much. Should he have replaced Jimbo as head coach?
Jimbo will make a reported $4mil/year more than Orgeron.

If Aranda really wants to coach in the NFL , he’s gonna have to take a big pay cut for sure. That’s comforting

Why in the hell would he want to go to A&M when his defense is poised to be among the elite in college football next year?
His D-line adds Fehoko, Shelvin, and Moore, plus a freshman or two who may contribute.
White returns at LB, plus Taylor, Queen, Chaisson, Thornton, Phillips, Divinity, and a couple of freshman who may see time.
Then, of course, are the DBs. If Toliver returns (which he should), he'll lock down one corner with Greedy at the other. Delpit and Battle will be at the safeties. There is a TON of quality depth behind all of them.
A&M's defense would be a couple of years away talent-wise.

FIFY. No way can I see Stevens' talent on the sidelines another year. I think Battle gets past up in the late Spring or Summer.

That's entirely possible, but it also supports my point.
That point is that LSU has an incredible amount of talent coming back for 2018. Aranda knows this, and he's got to be chomping at the bit to coach this group.
I know he can't wait for Fehoko to hit the field, just from little things he and Pete Jenkins have said. I recall Pete saying something like, "our best two defensive linemen can't even play this season." He was referring to Fehoko and Shelvin.
I can't wait.
