We got nothing to lose with a big armed QB...and we’re gonna need 4 or 5 big plays at least to win. How bout we have some fun and send a lot of our skilled players deep? If nothing else we might open up the run game a little. But with Finley’s arm..I’d tell him just go for it.

I don’t know if you’ve watched 2020 LSU yet but we don’t have true deep threat WRs, except Marshall, and our freshman QB throws a flat deep ball that our WRs can’t get under. The DBs easily defense these passes.

Try again.

A lot of the reasons you are seeing this offense is to protect the defense. It’s all about getting a W

Finley has a great arm but just doesn't trust his deep ball yet

He will get better.
He just started getting all the live reps

My point is..does it really matter? Are we really gonna win trying to control the clock with dink and dunk passes and rushing the ball? We controlled the ball for 42 minutes against Arky and barely won...that ain’t happening against Aggie

You aren’t beating the Aggies by running plays we don’t have the personnel to run. TJ hasn’t developed touch on his deep passes and he’s completed a low percentage of them so far. TJ’s strength is the intermediate passes, and you’ve seen LSU run quite a lot of them in the last couple of weeks.

And yes, every young QB needs a heathy running game to help him. The coaches finally gave him that last week.

Wonderful...let’s let him air it out and try to get some confidence. We’ve thrown like 2 deep balls all year.

That barely worked against a depleted Arky team...not gonna work against Aggy

as opposed to what? If airing it out dont work..you think grinding it out against Aggie’s defense will be pretty?

People have forgotten how bad our "offensive" line is. Did you not watch the Auburn game? While the defensive line is getting better, it seems, the offensive line is garbage.

What about the game? When we've won, with the freshman QB, we've won by running the ball and protecting the QB. The purpose is to win the game, and that is the simple answer to your question:

What do we have to lose?

Answer: The game!

His deep ball isn't all that accurate yet. It takes more than pure arm strength. Taking a shot here and there makes sense and he should only get better at it.

Yes. There’s a very obvious reason not to- our defense is atrocious. I think your best chance of winning is pounding away with TDP. Control
the clock and hit a few big PA plays. Keep their offense off the field and escape with a win

Deep threat WRs are not the issue. We have a few guys who can get separation with their matchups, including Gilbert. The issues have been giving the QB adequate time, which has affected both QBs, and Finley’s lack of polish.

I get the calls to abandon the deep ball, but you can’t completely ignore it. The defense will just sit on everything short to try and get a pick if you refuse to throw any deep balls. The key isn’t to just do it. It’s to find a few plays in practice that Finley can execute well and feels confident in, and then set those plays up properly during the game.

This is a game where we also need to be willing to take some chances to get easy scores. We haven’t had many big plays since the USC game and that’s one of the big things holding the offense down at the moment. They need to sprinkle in a couple of flea flickers, WR/HB passes, or other trick plays to try and get an easy, wide open TD somewhere.

I get the OP’s point. Grinding alone isn’t going to win this game. It might keep us in it, but we won’t score enough to win. You’ve got to add enough big play potential to balance the scales. Creativity is the key to that, and unfortunately that makes me worried. That just isn’t E’s strength.
