I’m just trying to wrap my head around how much money a person actually has to have to be okay with donating it to a football team collective

Didn't know a head coach could donate NIL $$ to his own program? CBK donated $1 million? Assume this is within the NIL laws of the state and NCAA rules. Never heard of head coach doing this.

You sweet summer child, you have absolutely no idea of the untold millions in funding Shaq has provided to LSU anonymously. Every once in awhile something will leak but you'll never hear it from Shaq himself or those close to him. I seriously doubt that anyone apart from Shaq himself, and the recipient departments, know the actual amount in total that he has donated to LSU. Hell, the last few Mikes have enjoyed a very nice habitat that was largely funded by Shaq, and that's only the tip of the iceberg.

The Cox Auditorium was funded by Shaq. Around $20mm many years ago to get it up. It also serves as the student athlete academic center.

how much did Shaq donate?

Look Shaq has a history of being very generous but to say he does a ton anonymously is based on what exactly? if it was anonymous how would you or anyone else know he does a lot anonymously

Shaq has always kept his donations either anonymous or with a note to not publicize them. That's not to say people who knew didn't let it slip once in awhile. As for the dollar amount provided by Shaq for Mike's habitat, I don't know. I do know, however, that he covered the shortfall in funding that wasn't reached by public and alumni donations.

Other successful and prominent LSU athletes have provided significant funding for LSU as well, but Shaquille has always been low key about it while being one of the most generous donors.

Richard Manship, longtime Tiger football booster and CEO of Capital City Press and WBRZ-TV, lead the fundraising for the massive project.

Manship, along with the Tiger Athletic Foundation, put together the Academic Center Development Council who was in charge of locating donors, including themselves. Together with a $5.5 million donation by Cox Communications, more than $14 million was donated by private contributors and supporters of LSU Athletics.

NIL should not be a tax write off. I’m not sure if it is or it ain’t.

If the organization is setup as a 501(c)(3), it can be a tax write-off. For it to be a legit organization, that organization cannot technically spend more than 30% of it as paying student athletes. However, until IRS comes cracking down some of these establishments, things will be in the grey.

From the IRS:
The exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3) are charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and preventing cruelty to children or animals.)

Here's an excerpt about the type of NIL collectives.
"More than 120 “NIL collectives” have been established in the U.S., many of them as tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations"

If a business directly pays the athlete and receives a service back, it can be a marketing expense.

In my research, my understanding is that companies/individuals "donating" are writing it off, either way.

As far as ex LSU athletes he is probably the wealthiest and yes I agree he is very charitable to the university and many other causes. His philanthropy isn't a surprise.

I did word my response wrong in saying "neither would do it anonymously" I should have said "I doubt they would do it anonymously".... Tyrann's net worth isn't even close to Shaq's so I doubt he would donate that much...just my opinion.
