Good points and I suspect most agree.

This morning, I looked at a couple of series from the Ga Tech game last year to see why so many were encouraged about Jefferson being the guy this year. Compared with now, he appeared decisive and confident. I wonder if the staff has coached his instincts out of him, and may have him carrying more of a burden than necessary and overthinking his role.

i disagree, unless can solve the problem with the OL/QB, or unless chavis can get the defense to score some touchdowns.

Jarret Lee threw quite a few touchdown passes last year.... to the other team.

the INT with 22 seconds left in the half didn't matter when you have to try to get into FG range

Disagree. LSU only needed ~25 yards to get into range for a FG attempt, and I believe they still had a TO. A FG before the half could have been huge.

Good first post luvmesumlsu! I want to elaborate on your 2nd and 3rd point. I don’t think the play calling is anywhere close to where it should have been against a team like Florida. Lsu lined up on the 3rd down play on the goal line and said, HEY YOU,,, we are running the ball right here! (I think a bootleg, with option to pass would have been a better call?!) #18 would have been open, if not the bootleg run, and if not then kick the ball.
Plus, the 3 step drop passes were working at times. Our coaches are asking JJ to do too much! The play calling should be bang bang against the speed of Florida!! Seems like when JJ takes 5 step drops, he has too much time to think, and gets flustered! I know it is necessary at time to throw it deep and no doubt that we should when our receivers are all 6’3” and their DBs are 6’ and under, but we have got to have more ingenuity in our offensive play calling. AND not putting Shep in the game,,,, I DON’T EVEN WANT TO GO THERE.
Lastly the penalties are a huge reflection of the Head Coaches control over this team. The being off sides that many times is just laughable, and from my view could have been call 5 or 10 more times. WHY THE FRICK, did miles not go to the defense when they were on the sidelines and tell them to line up right??? This just seems elementary, or maybe JR High!
This being said the D played great, Florida is a really good team, and so is Bama, and we will lose more games if the coaches don’t get control over this team and get creative with the play calling. Hell is JJ can’t throw the deep ball, Lee should come in every once in a while and do so!

The one thing that will hurt the Defense in weeks to come is if the Offense can't stay on the field for more than a couple minutes at a time. The Defense's ability to fight fatigue will only get worse as the season wears on.

Good Stuff, but Jefferson is experienced enough to know that getting rid of the ball at crucial times (4th down)is beyond important. He holds the ball a little too long on most of his passes anyway. He just seems unsure. Throwing deep for the hell of it early in the game might help him in 2 weeks, gotta be better than what they're doing now.

but I do think we will need to improve on the offensive side of the ball as well as play calling to not drop the Bama game

I say bench Jefferson and put Lee in and run a simple power running offense similar to what Alabama runs. There is no reason to believe we can't do that.

I believe this was how we started the season and teams started stacking the box. Everyone on the rant was bitching about "Scott up the middle again".

Let's not forget that Florida was rushing 3 at the end and still got a sack. It wasn't like JJ had 10 seconds. He was pressured quickly. Our OL play is HORRIBLE. That being said, JJ does hold the ball too long and doesn't look like he really wants to throw it. I mean with 6'4" receivers and 5'11" DB's, then throw it up for grabs.

A power running offense doesn't mean Scott up the middle. Does Alabama run Mark Ingram up the middle every down? No. Granted, their offense isn't exactly a power I but a little different but the same concept. What they do is spread the field and then run downhill. They mix that with some I-formations and run out of those formations through counters and dives and then hurt you with a play action pass every now and then and it works to perfection because it's simple and they execute it. Our offense has no identity and is extremely complicated. Simplicity is key and we need to pick something whether it's a true spread offense or a power offense. We have this disgusting hybrid between the two and its nauseating to watch.
