Defense will be solid, not dominant, but top 15

There is a dominant player at every level and the collective talent of the 20 players that will be getting the bulk of the snaps is off the charts. There is a very good chance this defense will be better than last year.

Alleman was pretty bad last season. I don't think it would take much for hairston to at least match that production.

In SEC ball, it's about your 2 deep. It's a very physical conference, people are gonna get banged up. Chad Jones, Lavar Edwards, Tharold Simon, Ron Brooks, and Kwon Alexander are just a few names that contributed as "back ups". What's really matters is that you have that mixture of experience and leadership to go along with young talented players. Loston, Freak, and Barrow will lead by example.

Outside of 1 de spot, everybody who will be starting has played a lot of football for LSU. And you've got a lot more dbs and lbs that have taken snaps this year than to start 2012.

The depth won't be very experienced, and that's probably the biggest concern.

but field goal kicking is a huge question mark and could easily cost us a game or two this year.
You could argue that it cost us the bama game last year. Drew missed 2 FGs, and the second was what led to the winning drive for bama. Had he made it, they may not have had as good of field position, and we would have been playing to defend the TD rather than the FG.

Drew was inconsistent as hell last year. Hard to see us being worse in that category.

I do agree our FG kicking last year was some of the worst in the Miles era. ST has always been good under Miles

I'm not saying this year's DL was better than last years DL... But we will get better performances out of them than 2012.... Book that.

These guys get a ton of playing time and the best player doesn't always start. For a player to outright jump an already established name like Sam Montgomery or Barkevious Mingo, they have to be substantially better.

Unfortunately, I don't think Hairston will be the PK. Just kickoff duty.

I agree. I think these younger guys may be more motivated this year, much like the young line in 2011

All the starters who left made their names in 2011. Our new starters will be motivated to make a name for themselves this year. Our defense will be better than last year.
