I agree, and based on their schedule/wins so far, KSU should be the #1 team.
Problem is, they are not a "brand" team, so the best they can hope for is the Fiesta Bowl.
Put OU or UT in their place today, and they are #1 right now. No questions asked. Bama would be a close #2, but would jump them IF they beat LSU next weekend.
