How bout we finish this one and enjoy it thoroughly before going ahead and freaking out about next year. Take time to smell the flowers, mate.

Unless Jones is just loving the college experience he's played his last game at the Box.

Lets look at the outlook ( I don't know about recruits so I can't make judgements)

Rotation
Fri Nola
Sat Glenn
Sun ? (Newman, cune, new guy)

Pretty much same as this year 2 solid starters Sunday question mark but I think less of one then this year.

Our pen will need to be rebuilt slightly I think.

C ? (Ross could come back)
1B ? (Moore or fresh)
2b ?
3b Ibarra (I think will be our 2nd or 3rd best bat)
SS bregs (player of year possibility)
RF laird or foster (both players would develop into something nice
CF Stevenson or laird
LF ?
DH McMullen (could also play OF)

We take a step back offensively losing two great hitters in Katz and rhymes. Also take a step back defensively with 2 solid infielders (Katz at first, jones at second) Ross could be gone to big loss defensively

So not based on recruits

Pitching
Starting better or about the same
Bullpen not as good but could be still good
Lineup takes step back but if this years first years improve it will still be good
Defense will not be as good on the right side of the infield I guess but not sure

So depending on our recruits I think we will still be top 10 team.

Expecting jones to come back is wishful thinking at this point

Labrum is a tough one to come back from so I wouldn't count too much on Reynolds. Nola Glenn is a given and I wouldn't be surprised to see Poche emerge as the 3. The key will be identifying a closer and a 'stopper' a lot like we are using Joey. I almost wonder if it would be worthwhile to put McCune in the pen to provide us with a very experienced and reliable veteran.

Jacoby Jones

If he stays another year and has a better season batting, he will be a 1st or 2nd rounder.

And he was drafted by the Pirates. If I was him I would certainly consider coming back, be drafted higher and hoping to get brought into a better organization.

No, just no.

His slot value is worth over $600k and as a junior he'll likely get very, very close to that. He's gone 99.9%.

They will give McCune 1 more shot to earn a weekend spot but I seriously doubt he gets it unless he magically returns to old form. He best fills Bonvillian's role that is departing IMO. A long reliever who can do spot starts here and there.

Broussard, Reynolds (if healthy), Newman or a new recruit like Dylan Williams or Parker Bugg will likely get that 3rd slot.

And here come the "wait a couple more weeks" people. Seriously, this is a discussion board, if you have nothing to add to the discussion, don't add anything.

The worst part about this offseason will simply be trimming the roster down to size. Something we do every year, but with losing possibly less than expected to the MLB draft in our recruiting class, the lowest guys will likely be asked to go to Eunice or another JUCO.

This makes me a little worried about a guy I know who signed with LSU, I hope he's not "encouraged" to play at Eunice. Of course seems to me like he'll be a bullpen arm, so that should help his chances
