Maybe the reason the 4th seed doesn't seem to matter is that all of the talented players go to the major programs like Alabama, Clemson or Ohio State because everyone (if they have the choice) wants to play for a winner. With more teams in the mix, more upsets will creep in and it might lead to parity. Right now, the rich seem to get richer and the poor get poorer.
