Bless you, That One. Someone who gets it.

And, eventually he will win a couple of more titles before his days at LSU are done (aka retired!)
This is also true.
Other points to note:
1) Boise St is #1
2) LSU has done this while CONSISTENTLY playing a tougher schedule than many of their SEC cohorts. Three years of that stretch, LSU's schedule was made more difficult, BY DESIGN, to benefit another team in the conference. That team took advantage of that "benefit". More power to them.
3) Since a poster asked: Since 2007 LSU has one more win than Bama, even with the ridiculous schedule imbalance.
4) NO, these stats will NEVER be pushed by ESPN. I'll remind my fellow fans that it is important to "know your place", especially when it comes to stats like this.
5) The next decade could be even better, based on the talent that has already been recruited.

We really have had an amazing decade, despite playing in the toughest division of the toughest conference. Too often taken for granted. Here's hoping the next 10 years will be even better!

Go look at how many games LSU won in 90's. Big name schools hit and miss on hiring coaches all the time. We are lucky to have had two great coaches back to back in Nick Saban and Les Miles. If Les Miles coaches another 5 seasons, he will pass Charles McClendon as LSU's all time winningest coach is school history(needs 43 more wins). Unfortunately, a lot of LSU fans won't realize how great of a coach we had in Les Miles until after he's gone. He's a great coach, an even greater man, and the players love to play for him.

Winning the crystal football is great and all, but there was a level of subjectiveness and luck associated with it that never made it truly a national championship. I think even this playoff will have a bit of that feel as well. I'm not saying I don't enjoy winning them, but they are not the be-all end-all of college football.
For example, don't forget the amount of luck Saban has had in winning all but one of his titles (2009 the exception):
1. 2003 - LSU nudges USC by .017 in the BCS standings because Bama beat Hawai'i the last game of the season
2. 2011 - Do I really need to get into this one?
3. 2012 - Bama loses late in the season, only to have Oregon lose in OT a week later to Stanford.
Would Saban be any less of a coach if he had the exact same coaching record he currently has but missed out playing in the 2003, 2011 and 2012 championship games to USC, Okla. St. and Oregon, respectively, because of circumstances beyond his control?

People never get this. We are the only team to play at least 3 of the last 10 national champions, every single year. We are the only team to play 3 of the national champions the last 6 years, every year. We are the only team in the SEC to play the SEC's national champions since 2000, every single year. We are the only team to play at least 7 of the last 16 participants in the national championship game, every year. In addition, we were two of the other 9 participants.
In 2011, we played 9 ranked teams. Five of those teams won at least 10 games that year, we were 5-1 against them. We beat the SEC East Champs, Orange Bowl Champs, Rose Bowl Champs, and National Champs. We played 3 teams who were ranked #3 or better in the country, we were 3-1 against them. In addition, we played the last three national champions in the same season (2008, 2009, 2010 National Champs). We didn't play four of the last four because we were the fourth, we did, however, play 4 of the last 5.

Truth be known, we have an ungodly record of achievement in the last 13 years. The record we have achieved in the past 13 years, when compared to the 25 years before that, is almost like comparing night to day.
When I read the bitching that goes on in regard to Les Miles or LSU football in general, I can only smile and shake my head in amazement over the lack of SEC/BCS football IQ on display.

quote:Cable/ESPN killed Notre Dame. They dominated the TV when only ABC, CBS and NBC showed the college games. Now almost every team, especially in the SEC can say most of their games are nationally televised.
FYI Notre Dame has had ONE ten win season in the last TWENTY years. The media tries to give them credibility because of the nationwide fanbase but I submit that the fanbase has dwindled somewhat

Great job Les Miles.
And he's done this while facing arguably the toughest overall schedules year-in/year-out as well.
Can't help but mention tGumps relatively weak ones as of late for comparison's sake.

I'm not sure if this has been posted but I came across it yesterday:

LSU beat both 1 and 3 fairly recently.
Next two teams, USC and Texas, pretty much avoided us at all costs.
LSU looks really good here.

We've certainly had a couple moments I'd rather forget since 2000 (as have ALL college football programs), but year-in-year-out there has been no program in America since 2000 better or more consistent than LSU.
I hope this run never ends. It does not get any better than this. There will come a time when we long for the glory days of the 2000's and 2010's again IMO... It is inevitable that there will be hard times in the future at some point, so we should enjoy every moment of the easy times that we are currently in the midst of.

During Miles tenure Alabama has 2 SEC and 3 NC, Florida has 2 of each, and Auburn has 2 SEC and 1 NC, same as us, if I am not mistaken. What he does not have during that time that the other programs do is a real "clunker" of a season. Miles has had a run similar to Fulmer at TN when he was dueling what was considered "The Coach" then in Spurrier, much like Saban is now. Again he has not had the clunker that Fulmer had at the end of his tenure. But a lot of folks here wouldn't put Fulmer anywhere close to Miles as a coach for some reason. Miles has exceeded a lot of expectations here and has been great for the program. Going forward it appears everything is in place for serious runs at NC soon. Here's to that happening
