What about an NIL deal? That could've possibly kept him here?

but if it were a 5th, 6th, or 7th round, I think I would understand, but 12 seems farther out there.

A few quick stats for you.

In 2021 27/30 drafted in the 12th round signed. 90%
In 2019 30/30 drafted in the 12th round signed. 100%
In 2018 28/30 drafted in the 12th round signed. 93.33%

(Note 2020 was only a five round draft due to covid).

Wanna guess why?

With the draft being shortened to 20 rounds and minor leagues being contracted, the percentage of players signing when drafted has increased. Less openings with more competition, better grab that job opening when it presents itself.

Overall in 2021, 309 out of 312 1st - 10th rounders signed. 99.04%; 139 out of 150 11th - 15th rounders signed 92.67%; and 118 out of 150 16th through 20th rounders signed 78.67%. Or 92.48% of the kids drafted signed.

If OP is still confused after your post, it’s a lost cause

I knew the OP was lost cause when I saw who made the thread. He's constantly a clueless retard here. This thread just highlights that.

They've also got to be paying him well above slot value, so it really doesn't matter what round he went. He's probably making 6x what he would make in the draft next year, maybe more than that. Even if he had an incredible season next year, they would pay him pocket change in the draft.

Agreed OP

These guys’ dream should be to get to Omaha, not start the drudgery of the minors with little chance of ever playing in a big league game.

Jesus you still haven’t given up.

Look at all the JR’s signing late in the draft. Or people with one year of eligibility signing UDFA deals instead of going back to College.

Nope. College >>> pros is a hill I’ll live and die on.

We get it. You care about LSU, and sure nothing wrong with that.

You’ve already said you hate the MLB and how they do things.

But at this point you’re basically saying you ONLY care about LSU and don’t give two shits about the player/persons future.

For some fans and some players, yes. But if you're telling me that college athletes go to school and say, "I want to win a National Championship and don't care if I make it as a pro," then you're wrong.

Most of these guys dream about playing in the Majors and holding them back from doing that is ridiculous.

Gervase was pitching at DeVry two years ago. His whole goal for coming to lsu was exposure.

who are you to tell him he shouldn't?

You're 100% right we can't tell him what to do and he has to make his decision for himself and I for one certainly respect it.

However, that doesn't change the fact that if had paid me (or asked me) to advise him I'd have advised a different path for him, based on the history of what we've seen recently with the decreasing time to the bigs for college players that show dominance on the diamond in college.

However, like I said I don't fault his decision or him making it...I hope he gets to the show and has a HOF career.

I’m not knocking him for signing but I don’t like how he did it. Never should have tweeted he was coming back if there was a chance he wasn’t . Good luck to him though .
