How did Raph Rhymes do?
Posted on 1/29/11 at 4:28 pm to RBWilliams8
The pitching WILL be better than last year.
Posted on 1/29/11 at 4:29 pm to PiscesTiger
He did not do anything that stood out to me. I might have missed it.

Did we get a radar gun? Any new additions to the box?
Posted on 1/29/11 at 4:41 pm to TigerTerd
Nope. They have new paint on the outside fences and the stairs.

still with the dumb net above centerfield wall?

Gausman was hitting mid 90's...think I heard a 96 mph...certain I heard a couple 95 mph pitches

thanks for the updates...

Yeah his second pitch was 96. Think he hit it a few more times as well. Most of them were 95 or 94.

My take on the practice
-Dykstra is built like Hunter Pence
-Honover's play at third was impressive
-Gausman looked legit
-Juco catcher looked great...nice home run and took command of pitching staff
-Didier had a nice hit in the gap
-Mahtook looked great as always....what a shot he hit....home run hit the McDonald's sign on the score board
-Spencer Ware has great speed on the base paths
-overall the team looked good

Yes, but they replaced the old, torn screen with a new one.

As far as spencer ware, it's easy to see the guy is talented. Strong arm, fast. but, understandably, he's behind on the little things like taking angles on balls and turning his body correctly when a runner is tagging.
I realize it's early but is Spencer Ware a lock to be on the roster?
Which position?
Thanks.

Yes he is a lock to be on the team. CPM said he was the "wildcard" of the team. He was playing CF. He was leading off as well. He looked lost for about an inning in the field and his first AB. His next two AB's were nice and he was playing solid D. He made a nice sliding catch.(bad jump forced the slide however it was still nice to see him make the play)

If he is really hitting 94 and 95 consistently, wow

I was watching every pitch from behind the gun. He was hitting 92-94. Hit 96 once that I noticed. The other guy said more than that but I only noticed once. His breaking ball needs some work IMO. He used it about 6-7 times. His change up looked good to me. It might of been a split. Had good sink to it.

Were they using the new bats? If so, could you tell the difference?

This is good to hear since the ability to alter speed is the key to successful pitching. SEC hitters will feast on a guy who throws the ball 90+ every pitch. Its great he has a change up to go along with his fast ball
