A dying breed, Tory Carter may be LSU's last true fullback

As more teams have adopted spread schemes, the fullback position is now near extinction. Carter is a violent beast on the field, and so fun to watch. Hope to see him contribute with a few goal-line or 4th-and-1 carries and an occasional pass thrown his way in a hybrid role in the new offense.

quote:

His position may change. It might disappear from the game. But the way Tory Carter approaches football will stay the same. He’s a fullback who hits with his face, who loves contact, who wants to meet a man in the hole and flatten him.

"I want to try to dent my face mask every game," Tory said, "but I don't know if that's healthy."

Let's dial it up against Bama. I'd pay good money to see Carter run over and destroy Moses.

Ummm. Tory Carter isn’t a true fullback in the 1st place. I think a guy with Carter’s skill set will play in today’s game.

Nope. I actually post my opinions. I'm not an O worshiper. I respect others' opinions. No pics of O bending over from me. And my last name is not Ponamsky.

Some spread offenses still have a fullback. They just call him an h-back, kind of a hybrid fullback/tight end.

I might add the fullback position started changing many years ago. In the old days of Larry Czonka and Jim Taylor, fullbacks split carries with halfbacks. In some offenses the fullback was the feature back.

Over time the fullback became primarily a blocking back. I don’t know why more teams don’t use one of their more athletic guards as fullbacks. You see that in some goal line offenses. Imagine Damien Lewis or Chasen Hines leading the back into the hole.

He looks deranged on the field. Like legit mentally unstable. And I love it. I get all kinda fired up just seeing his crazy arse on the field.

He’s the type of guy that bites people in fights.

I think he just became my favorite player. Good discussion in this thread. Refreshing.

I hate so much today’s college offenses.

Even the shotgun itself I dislike: there’s something about a QB taking a dropback from under center and making a great throw that’s lost from the gun.

It was always a point of pride as an LSU fan that we were the I-form team... looks like Alleva managed to ruin that as his parting gift by firing the winningest coach in LSU history.

Oh well. Hope Pooka wins the Heisman running behind a rotation of fullbacks.

Are you fricking serious? So you would rather stay traditional and not compete for championships just because you don’t like modern offenses?
