That is a complete cliche and not at all true. We have teams like Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Florida running spreads that hurry up the pace. Even LSU runs a little hurry up.

Auburn is by far the "fastest" team in the SEC at #28 with 71 plays/game. Half of the Big 12 (A&M, OU, OSU, Tex, Tech, and Baylor) average more snaps per game than Auburn. A&M averages 81 plays/game.

Also, I would contend that 7 extra plays per game does not explain away the disparity in defensive rankings.

LSU averages 302 YPG allowed. A&M 357 YPG allowed for a grand total of 55 yards difference. There's an average of 13 extra plays per game between A&M's opposing teams and LSU's opposing teams. If you don't think 13 plays are relevant to a difference fo 55 yards per game, then we can agree to disagree.

Rushing Offense(A&M) vs Rushing Defense(LSU) - Advantage A&M
I'm slightly confused. You know that says 10th for rushing defense right??

Seriously stop drinking, theres three first round draft picks on our D. You dont equal it, and everyone in the country knows that A&M are known choke artists. Please take a moment to stop pissing your pants and come up with a real flame.

Hey how do you tell an Aggie in a crowd? By the rusty zipper and yellow tennis shoes.

Football season is over in Austin. Go find a basketball forum.

The point is that "plays per game" is not just related to the "pace of the offense."

It is also related to how good the defense is. SEC defenses are better.

Here is an example:

On cfbstats.com, you can isolate the conference's defensive performance AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE TEAMS....so we're getting a measure of how the defenses perform against OOC offenses.

The best defense in the Big XII against non-conference teams was Nebraska, which gave up 265 yards per game in those games.

Nebraska would be 5th in the SEC.

OK, you say....the man's got a point. But what about OOC SOS? Perhaps the Big XII played a tougher OOC schedule than the SEC?

Not so, says this site, LINK

The SEC played the toughest OOC schedule, and came away with better defensive stats overall than the Big XII.

Point made.

Relatively formidable, yes. She's pretty good. She is attributing too much to the pace of the game, though.

SEC defenses are better and the stats prove it.

Eh I just really love CFB but thanks!!! I still think A&M is the underdog, despite my blatant homerism.

LSU fans will disagree with you, but they won't agree to it.

We're FAR too disagreeable.

That's not a ranking of OOC schedule - that's a ranking of how each conference performed in their OOC games.

So it says SEC played 2 top 10 OOC games and 2 OOC teams ranked 11-25. Big 12 played 2 top 10 OOC games and 2 OOC games ranked 11-25. Sounds even to me. You guys did perform better though, 1-1 against top 10 teams compared to our 0-2.

I will concede the point...the SEC west is the hardest division to play in. Where we will disagree is how much better - I think you guys discount the rest of the BCS way too much but something tells me you guys may be a wee bit stubborn on that front so I'll let it go. ;)

Tends to happen when your conference has won the last four national championships....this after listening to a bunch of BS about how Florida and LSU didn't deserve to be there in 06/07.

Intangables . A&M. I am worried about LSU being fired up for this game. A & M will be sky high and have something to prove.

We obviously didn't need to pass much more. 2 losses to top ten teams by a handful.......you're right, two more td passes and a fg and we're playin Oregon.

Kudos Mr. Wizard

how many ranked non conference teams did LSU play this year? oh wait... NONE. Don't preach about scheduling. A&M has the #1 strength of schedule in the nation.

Really Im pretty sure West Virginia Was ranked when we played them. So was North Carilina, I guess Stephen F. Austin is better than that though. Plus you play in a poo coference we have 4 teams that could probably beat Oregon in the national championship. LSU is going to kill Texas A&M. Oh and A&M does not have the #1 strength of schedule not sure where you get your information but im pretty sure you should probably not depend on the cattle that you call your girlfriends for your sports information.
